@spicyliltoaster
Got a rejection from a traditional publisher today. They called my writing
‘visceral, moving, the next big thing’—their words.

Yet they rejected me, not for my writing, but for my weak social media
presence.

In 2025, it seems talent isn’t about what you create anymore; followers are the
new currency.

When did good writing start needing a hashtag to prove its worth?

I’m frustrated, disappointed, and discouraged. But this is fuel now.

I’m going to prove there’s still a place for stories that stand on their merit.

LOL! right?

Lordy. I used to write satire, humor and short stories
for dog magazines and actually had the "chicken soup for
the soul" publishers buy one of my stories for an
anthology.

I'm on very few social media sites. I just recently got
a BlueSky account to keep up with a local club I attend.
That's pretty much it. No facebook, twitter, instagram,
etc.

Guess I'm hosed too. Crazy world.

Thank you very much. They were never wine and caviar
pieces, I called myself a "beer and peanuts" writer. It
brought me joy to make another laugh for just a moment.
So important in these times, maybe more so.

Haven't written my shorts in years now. I retired from
main-stream dog world of shows and field(now just take
pleasure in the peripheral, lower keyed world of
training, service dogs and rescues).

Back then though, you didn't need social media accounts
to shop a piece. The world changes around us even as we
change.

One of my granddaughters is in college and majoring in
writing and would like to become a professional
screenwriter. It's a tough business, but she's my pride
and joy. I know it's in her if the world allows her a
crack in the door. But yes, it's a very different world
these days as the post describes.

Well, I like what you write.

Well, maybe not all.

Some of it?

OK. A post or two over the years....

:)
