Go live remotely near a small rural Alaskan town for a few years without going to any large community or city somewhere, and after three years or so, go to one of the large cities somewhere in the lower 48. When you get off departing the airplane, and walk into the large airport, it will feel like people that walk by you are in a big rush, vibrating really fast. You begin to feel you just landed on a different planet, who are these people in a big hurry. You rent a car and get on the freeway to go see family as many cars are passing you at a high rate of speed with some honking at you and cursing at you, flipping you off. People seem like they are so rude and mean spirited as you turned in your rented car and are waiting at the ferry terminal to cross the bay. You were the first person there, and now find your self way in back of people as they take cuts and make their way forward aggressively. You say to yourself, who are these people as you casually look at some of the people who made their way in front of you, vibrating so fast as if they seem they're going to blink out before your eye's. You pause and reflect back and remember how you were sort of just just these people before you left for alaska, and thinking how easy it is to get caught up in the this craziness and not even realize it until you go live out in the slow quiet lifestyle of alaska. It's as though coming back from alaska, that you just taken a big dose of medicine that snaps you back awake full of awareness. I remember some years ago when taking a lunch break from my gardening work at a senior housing apartment complex, and having lunch with the maintenance person and his father from the mountains of Nicaragua. His father spoke no English as his son interpreted for him. His dad said that are food here is bad, no good. He then talked about when his son was driving him on the freeway how everyone seemed in a big rush to get somewhere, and thought how crazy american people seem to be. His son told me that he flew his dad here from Nicaragua in hopes he would stay to live close to him and his other two brothers who fled Nicaragua some years ago. But his dad didn't want to stay and wanted to get back to the mountains of Nicaragua, where he said the way of life was much better in that the food was much better, and nobody was in a rush. Spending some time in Alaska myself, I totally understood and related on his dad's feelings.

I was born and lived in San Diego many years ago-- San Diego was very slow and laid back. Then I moved to Orange county and then L.A. county in my early teens. When I grew up and then lived in Los Angeles it never felt like "home", having spent my earlier years in rural and beach areas in San Diego. So every chance I got when my kids were young, drove down to S.D. to visit with some family-- it was so nice ansd calm there. Not anymore! Last time I was in S California it was around 2008- crazy mad and insane. I sure miss those days. Thats why when I left S Cali in late 1998, I only chose smaller rural country areas. But even now, its crazy all over. Sad times.
