BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — If you've been seeing a large, furry, green creature around Kern County, you aren't alone. Sightings of what the internet has deemed the "Cashsquatch" have been reported downtown, Southwest, and in Northwest Bakersfield.
The green creature is described as having money bills onto its body, and supposedly presents a cheerful demeanor.
"He was like waving, and like dancing," said Chris Guy, who spotted the Cashsquatch near the Fox Theatre, "he just looked harmless."
Guy was with his 2-year-old daughter and said she was amused by the sight, which lead him to believe that it wasn't something concerning.
Lauren Harris, who saw the Cashsquatch after lunch at the Padre Hotel, said she wasn't sure how to feel.
"At first, I was like, should I be scared? But he didn't really seem scary," said Harris, "he seemed kind of funny."
Both Harris and Guy were intrigued by the figure, and quickly discovered the phenomenon after searching online.
Posters around town titled "mysterious creature" and "strange creature spotted in Kern County" include a QR code to report sightings.
It is currently unknown if the Cashsquatch is a practical joke, or a marketing technique.
