A dam in southern Minnesota is at risk of failure after heavy rainfall inundated rivers in the region.
A flash flood warning was issued for some areas around the Rapidan Dam in Blue Earth County, about 55 miles southwest of the Twin Cities.
While officials said they notified anyone that could be in immediate danger, they aren't expecting any catastrophic impacts.
“We want to make sure everybody has an understanding that we don’t believe there is an imminent threat to everyone who is in the pathway of the river," Capt. Paul Barta of the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office told KEYC-TV.
If the river were to burst, Barta said water levels would rise about 2 feet.
In an earlier update, Blue Earth County officials said that the dam could burst at any time.
"The dam is in imminent failure condition. We do not know if it will totally fail or if it will remain in place," the county said in a social media post around 11 a.m. EDT.
Debris was seen building up on Sunday, and while some water was still flowing through the dam, the river had cut a new path around the west side of the dam due to the blocking debris.
A follow up post around 1 p.m. today noted that the situation was being monitored by several agencies and that anyone in immediate danger had been notified.
"The dam is currently intact and there is not an evacuation order in place for Blue Earth County residents," the update said.
Between 8 and 9 inches of rain had fallen across the region since Father's Day weekend. The Minnesota River at nearby Mankato is headed to its highest crest since the June 1993 flood there.
Relief may not come for at least several days.
"Another cluster of severe thunderstorms is expected to sweep across northern and eastern Minnesota tonight," weather.com senior meteorologist Jonathan Erdman said this afternoon. "That could bring brief soaking rain to parts of southern Minnesota, but since it will move quickly, it's not expected to have much impact on the current flooding there."
The next chance of rain and thunderstorms arrives later Thursday into Friday.

BREAKING: Rapidan Dam in Minnesota in 'imminent failure condition' after recent flooding
The Rapidan Dam is in a precarious state after recent flooding of the Blue Earth River, prompting Minnesota officials on Monday to warn the public that the structure is in "imminent failure condition."
The Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office said the river has cut around the sides of the dam and debris has been accumulating in the water. It announced the "imminent failure condition" status and notified those who may be impacted.
