I watched that whole thing when it aired- very
distressing getting into those young girls, and women's
personal space like that. If I'd been one of those
parents there, would probably slapped the guy, or taken
my children out of there- people who over reach peoples
personal space are just plain creepy--do not even care
if they were all taking "family pictures" If he'd done
that to me as a grown woman, it would have been exit,
stage left. It is not welcome nor appropriate.

I watched the whole thing too...
The energy he's emitting in them is that of a grandfather
energy interacting with those girls *with the familiarity
he might show with his own grandchildren* -- which is the
*only* energy that could be seen as inappropriate and, no
doubt, is attributable solely to his age...all tiny
children kinda becoming grandkids to him...I can relate;
it's kinda the same for me...
But nowhere in him, nor in me, is there anything REMOTELY
sexual in his energy toward them...and anyone who's seeing
that is projecting it. End of.

I suppose its just me then, too close for comfort from
anyone I don't know-- or my kids don't know. I had one
grandfather in my life- who never treated me this way. A
very good decent intelligent man. He was not clingy, or
touched me in ways he was touching those young girls and
women-
and there were several in my family whom I had to learn
were overstepping their boundaries with me as a child,
uncles and a father- sex offenders. Only one went to
prison for his offences.

None of the men in my family ever behaved that way--or
talked that way--around us girls or women-folk. Just
watching this makes my skin crawl. I must have been
lucky, because the only two grown men I ever felt
uncomfortable around were outsiders. They weren't around
long.

Understood, pamela...
Now, having said what I have about how I perceived Joe's
energy in my last post...that does not mean to suggest
that I think children should feel any kind of obligation
to receive the attention-energy of *anyone* they don't
feel absolutely comfortable with! Yes, I definitely saw
Joe's energy as simply extending that grandfatherly
familiarity to a young girl *outside his family/extended
family/everyday people* -- an intention entirely benign
in nature, whether or not that's ideal when dealing with
the general public. But whether or not she felt
comfortable with him doing so is just as important as his
intention. And if she or any child felt uncomfortable
with Joe, or anyone, coming into their personal space in
that way for any reason, I would hope they'd have been
taught they have the right to move away, disengage, not
receive what was being offered...and of course, tell an
adult if doing that was not enough...
Just so's we're clear.
I'm sorry you had that experience as a child... ;(

I made exactly zero excuses for anything. I saw the
video. While my clear sense was that there was zero
sexual energy in how he was toward this little girl, I
also made it clear that *regardless of whether there was
or not, she had every right to move away if she felt
uncomfortable*... The fact that she felt uncomfortable
does NOT necessarily translate to sexual intent on Joe's
part, though it's clear you wish it did...
Very often elders will feel very grandparently toward all
children, and may forget that not every child appreciates
someone they don't know being that demonstrative and
close with them physically... And every child has the
right to maintain comfortable distance between themselves
and *any adult* even if the adult's intention is entirely
benign...
Your need to read what I'm saying here as "making
excuses" for Joe rather than calling the situation as it
is, in all the detailed discernment called for, is
completely transparent and seriously sad, pal...
