The Underwater Forest, a new documentary by Ben Raines produced by This is Alabama, details the discovery and exploration of an ancient cypress forest found sixty feet underwater in the Gulf of Mexico, due south of Gulf Shores, Alabama. The forest dates to an ice age more than 60,000 years ago, when sea levels were about 400 feet lower than they are today.
sooo interesting. there is also a forest underwater off the northern coast of oregon/washington that they discovered of cedar trees I believe. we studied that in class years ago.

Years ago when my parents were having a well dug here in SW Louisiana, the drill bit brought up a cypress splinter from depth of 40 ft. That spot was abandoned and the drilling moved over about 15 ft. Success.
