Hi Sue-
I find this article interesting but also irritating.
It is obvious that the scientists don't want to have native people swoop in and demand the return of these people in their resting place, and that the remains treated with dignity.
Surely the DNA evidence would show native origins, especially during that relatively recent time period. I noticed that they didn't provide DNA information on what group of people these individuals were actually related to. If they were even remotely European, they would have proclaimed that in all the headlines around the world. "Native people not here first!" would have been resounding.
So it is basically supression of information with dubious claims, to retain the specimens longer.
The "Kennewick Man" find proved just how trustworthy scientists can be, and how they try to keep disturbing resting places of native people, and then refuse to return the remains.
Sorry Sue, this rant isn't aimed at you, it's just frustrating to see ancient people treated so disrespectfully in death, and how outlandish the researchers can hypothesize when confronted with the truth. For all their learning, so many of them can be so inept their respective field of study.
As an enrolled member of mt tribe, I get barraged by a lot of bad science and bad history all of the time. So I'm afraid that I am not as forgiving as I should be. I suppose I should work at it.

Personally thought the bog was handled respectfully and some of it was left untouched for science to catch up. On the flip side I have read articles where remains were gving to Native Americans and later found there was no relation at all to them. What was said is there is no relation to any surviving Natives per DNA. I wondered about the European link as well. Its always easier to rule out the find the answer. Time will tell.
