Subject: a fully transparent solar cell could make windows/power source

URL: http://wellwisherparadise.blogspot.com/2015/03/a-fully-transparent-solar-cell-that.html

Researchers at Michigan State University have created a fully transparent solar concentrator, which could turn any window or sheet of glass (like your smartphone’s screen) into a photovoltaic solar cell. Unlike other “transparent” solar cells that we’ve reported on in the past, this one really is transparent, as you can see in the photos throughout this story. According to Richard Lunt, who led the research, the team are confident that the transparent solar panels can be efficiently deployed in a wide range of settings, from “tall buildings with lots of windows or any kind of mobile device that demands high aesthetic quality like a phone or e-reader.”

Fantastic !

I have wondered when they would come out with these.
I think it is a great idea. Solar panels are good,
but they will be more acceptable when they can be
integrated into the homes' design instead of being a
potential eyesore on the roof of your home.

I would like to see solar technology integrated
into roof shingles, windows. siding, even gutters.

A lot of sunlight hits those areas everyday. And
every kw of electricity we generate for ourselves
frees us from the bondage of the electrical grid and
dependence on Middle Eastern Oil.

I don't like government interference , but I wish
there was a national housing standard the same way
they exist for cars. And legislation that all homes
built after x date must be super insulated. Super
insulated homes use 1/3 of the energy to heat and
cool than a regular home, especially if they use
energy star rated appliances.

There is a lot we could do to lessen our dependence
on fossil fuels and nuclear energy if our
politicians had the political will and the public
was not so resistant to change.

whether this is practical or not will probably depend a lot on geographic location, sunny days per year, and whether it is more cost effective to use shade trees or not to fight off huge summertime cooling costs.

True but if it is cheap enough you could use it
anywhere. If you have a window, you have sunshine.

There is no single substitute for fossil fuels and
nuclear energy. But if you had solarized windows,
solarized roofing shingles, a super insulated home and
perhaps a wind turbine.......you would be in good
shape.

It's not just producing energy, it's being off the
grid and free from 'the man' and the energy grid.

>>"It's not just producing energy, it's being off the

true, however off the grid homes are very rare... building codes in any rural/city area require people who install solar to be *on the grid* - with shut off switches installed that shut off your power same as everyone else when a power failure occurs.

it is a *safety* issue for the linemen trying to restore power... or so they say.

truth is... the power companies will steal power from you if you make more than you use... and profit from it while paying you nickels on the dollar.
