This so reminded me of our buddy dib who also calls himself ScienceGuy, SciGuy and such while blindly repeating liberal editorial pieces. LOL

Hell I've got similar credentials to Bill Nye yet I make clear I don't speak as an authority but simply a well informed person expressing his opinion on science based issues.

Cheers

Jim

Can the Media Please Stop Quoting Bill Nye as a Science Expert
January 28, 2015 by Daniel Greenfield

Calling yourself the “Science Guy” does not mean that you are an expert on anything. It means you’re the host of a kids show.

Instead Bill Nye is being interviewed as if he were an expert on every possible topic from footballs to evolution. He’s out there blaming the blizzard on Global Warming; a subject that, like most other things, he knows nothing about.

Bill Nye was an aspiring comedian who wasn’t funny and so began doing edutainment for kids instead. He has no PhD. He has a BS in mechanical engineering.

Every few years Nye fills out the astronaut application and goes in for his astronaut physical. And every few years he is rejected. His degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell University isn’t enough. Nye says he needs a Ph.D. to be an astronaut.

“Physically, athletically and as project man, a solver of mechanical problems, a tinkerer, I am as good as anybody,” he says. “I’d love to get a Ph.D in applied physics or fluid mechanics, but that’s a seven- or eight-year commitment.”

Being an astronaut would help him change the world, he says. He considers changing the world to be a lifelong goal.

You can see why NASA rejected him. Bill Nye, like most lefties, wants to change the world. He just doesn’t want to make any commitments. (Also he’s athletically as good as anyone? Seriously?)

It’s not clear when he last worked in his actual field, but it would seem that he hasn’t done it in decades.

But then he began yelling a lot about Creationism, which caught the attention of lefty clickbait sites staffed by millenials who grew up with his kids show, and began treating him as an expert on everything.

So now we have Bill Nye being quoted on life after death, football pressure and evolution. Not because he’s an expert, but because he’s a celebrity. And unlike Tyson, he’s not even a celebrity scientist.

Just a celebrity. And a fifth rate one at that.

Bill Nye is a comedian who wanted to change the world by becoming an astronaut but wouldn’t take the time to get a PhD. Now he got his wish because media standards have fallen so far into the toilet that it will quote anyone who agrees with them and whose material might go viral.

Hi terra,

Nope, he's just a television personality who supports good science but is not an actual scientist and tends to speak far outside areas where he is knowledgeable.

Cheers

Comedian Irwin Corey use to call himself "The WORLD'S FOREMOST AUTHORITY "

Bill Nerd the science turd is a joke. When he did his anti-creation junk on You Tube he got loads of comments. Some were great and took Bill Nerd to school and gave him a sound flogging, richly deserved.

Don't you love it when they drag crackpot rock and movie stars before congress so they can spout off. Bono, DeCaprio etc. I want to see Lindsay Lohan drunk on her ass before congress warning the youth of America on the evils of drunk driving. Way more entertaining than DeCaprio, Bill Nerd or Bono.

Michio Kaku needs to be reminded that science theory is still in the sci-fi realm and not actualized. I like theorectics but it's like he is trippin sometimes. String Theory was around before he renamed it.
He's not as bad as science guy Richard Hoagland , a confetti head that talks for hours, deliriously excited about things that never happen.

Hi Steve,

I'm sure Bill Nye means well and he is right on some issues. But he doesn't have the expertise and tends to speak on things far outside his knowledge. He's just a guy with an engineering degree presenting himself as an authority on pretty much everything.

Michio Kaku is a brilliant man who often speaks far outside his area of knowledge. And this is common among brilliant people. For example Albert Einstein was fascinated by Velikovsky and Hapgood. He understood the physics and told Velikovsky right off the bat he was wrong about Venus and the pole shift. But he was fascinated by the things outside his area of knowledge such as the so called evidence of catastrophe just a few thousand years ago. He didn't know that these men misrepresented many things as that wasn't his field.

Richard Hoagland is totally different... he's just a scammer without any scientific education that has made a nice living by fooling the scientifically illiterate who love conspiracy theories.

But there are many people out there presenting themselves as authorities when they either are far out of their area of expertise or who simply have no knowledge (Hoagland, celebrities testifying before congress, most anyone on C2C AM) putting out bad information.

Cheers

Jim

There's a similar problem with Michio Kaku. He's an expert in theoretical physics. Even has the PhD. But I've seen the media calling him in for 'expertise' on topics outside of his domain. Notably, I've seen him talking earthquakes when they happen. Uhhhh...how about talking to the guys and gals at CalTech or USGS? But Kaku has gained some celebrity status.

NOT good for science.

Brian
