You know we have no right to hurt someone even if we believe we're right about an issue. Surely you know I didn't intend to hurt you.
I really don't know what to say, seems like sorry is not enough. I had no idea that what I said would cause this. I wish I hadn't posted anything at all on this board.
I felt bad all day and didn't know why. Now I know why.

I could easily have just 'flushed' his diatribe comments, until your 'narcissist' diagnosis of my 'condition' pushed me off a cliff into the 'deep zone'....how can you not know that would hurt me? Just your feeling bad about posting your comments here is enough of an apology, however, and I forgive you!...Yes I am sensitive, but that was a little extreme!

Oh please, please don't flush my diatribe comments, can't you see the reason I'm behaving like this is because I'm jealous??? Oh Lofty, I just didn't know how to say this, but gosh, I love you so! Please, please, will you marry me? I happen to have a wife right now, but that can be resolved with a weapon of some kind, so let me know soon, my dear, and you and I can become lovers for all eternity.
With all my love,
Dibbest

Looking back, the same thing happened discussing downtown. I got influenced by someone else and was piling on when I should have let it go.
Still that doesn't excuse what was said. I have to watch what I say and how I say it and no this isn't a cop out. I'm 100% responsible for what I say. As you said after looking back how could I not know those words would hurt.
Stupid and inconsiderate to say the least.

Let's just post as usual on EW until it becomes, well...personal... then move over to 'Personal'...but it will always veer off sharply when just two are responding to each other's posts...unless we keep our comments as if in reply to the original post..make sense?
Original post **4 Reply **3 Response **2 Reply **1 Response In other words, the last response will be above, not below...which will require some mental gymnastics, lol...but we're up for it...yes?

Makes sense to me. I think I get it. The last post will be at the top so as not to make a very long thread.
Well I'm not that concerned about the right tapering conversation trailing down the page as long as it doesn't get too long.
Now if it's on topic then I really don't care that much.

BTW, before we leave this topic for good...did you actually read the so-called 'feud' in question? There was no feud but what he made it into. I just dared to call him out for his modus operandi, as did just about everyone on this board. He called me a name and I responded with humor and charm! He pressed on with other insults...I continued with the humor until his last insult, which I ignored and that was it! Apparently one doesn't ignore him... eventually he gets even! It had absolutely NOTHING to do with pseudoscience vs. science. He just found his opportunity in my posts to you...by the length of his diatribe, it's obvious that his hostility has been festering ever since Oct. 28-29, 2014.
Oh one more small incident-he called someone ugly so I reminded him that his handle '......' spelled backward was yug ic(k)S and that THAT was ugly! lol....oooh, wrong thing to say, I just found out... no sense of humor!

>BTW, before we leave this topic for good...did you actually read the so-called 'feud' in question? There was no feud but what he made it into.
You began the feud be attacking me without provocation on EW when I wasn't even posting on EW.
>I just dared to call him out for his modus operandi, as did just about everyone on this board.
That is actually closer to the truth than your usual lying. Btw, did you know you could go to hell for lying? Better talk to your priest, or is he one of your lovers?
>He called me a name
Yes, it was Loftrat. I love that name for you. Rats in the loft, get it?
>and I responded with humor and charm!
After attacking me without provocation, what did you expect, roses? I've got a sneaky suspicion that you attacked me solely to cuddle up to Phil because he seems to harbor the suspicion, even now, that I was trolling him (following him around the boards, he says), when at the time I had posted only two messages total to him. And I see he is still making that charge, and Phil, you owe me an apology for that lie.
>He pressed on with other insults...
I'm thinking of adding a lot of other insults, like "bitch", "liar", "prima donna", and "melodramatic drama queen", to the list.
>I continued with the humor until his last insult, which I ignored and that was it! Apparently one doesn't ignore him...
Pretending you didn't smear me doesn't do a thing for my mood, so don't expect any apologies. Ever, not even for this one, so don't ask.
>eventually he gets even!
Yes, I do, I have a good reputation in that respect.
>It had absolutely NOTHING to do with pseudoscience vs. science.
Never said it did, darlin'. What I did say was that I was reacting to your slimy message on EW about me. I'll admit that I go all out when I get insulted. You know why? Practically everyone on these boards is a pseudoscientist. I am (was) a scientist. There is pure hatred on these boards for what I stand for. So why do I post here? It's addictive. It's like heroin--it satisfies the craving, but rots your brain.
>He just found his opportunity in my posts to you...
Yes, indeed, as I already stated, my first post was a reaction to your post to Phil that slimed me. Is your memory that bad, or do you have an aversion to truth?
>by the length of his diatribe, it's obvious that his hostility has been festering ever since Oct. 28-29, 2014.
Lol. I have no idea what date you insulted me, but if that is the date you insulted me, then what of it? All the rest of the time since then, I have been correcting your lies.
>Oh one more small incident-he called someone ugly so I reminded him that his handle '......' spelled backward was yug ic(k)S and that THAT was ugly! lol....oooh, wrong thing to say, I just found out... no sense of humor!

I've been 'knowing' DIB for years. We need all types when it comes to a search for the truth. He keeps us honest, we can get too far out there building false premises upon false premises.
I uses to live in Berkeley by the way which may not mean anything.
Anyway now any little ache and pain corresponds with a seismic event on EarthGroans.
Do you really believe that everyone of the girls on EarthGroans is a seismic empath? I don't.
There was a similar obsession with H.A.A.R.P. supposedly causing earthquakes a while back and it got Don to comment that "It's getting so we can't even have a good old fashion natural earthquake anymore." (I'm paraphrasing.) Well EarthGroans ain't going anywhere soon, layer upon layer of misguided perceptions turned into belief, it's entrenched now and no one can dissuade the thousands of misconceptions ( to say the least)!
When Dib goes into his name calling it doesn't faze me one bit. He used to follow me around to make sure I wasn't batting for the other team, the pseudoscientists.
I can feel him looking over my shoulder sometimes and the proof is as soon as his name was mentioned he appeared.
I stated to Don in Berkeley that the difference between he and I is that I believe in things that can't be measured or necessarily proven with science or scientific instruments, Dib doesn't, he's very empirical to say the least.
As I've said many times that I had a precognitive dream about the Easter Sunday earthquake in 2010. The earthquake unfolded exactly like the dream, except in the dream I was on the phone with someone and when the earthquake struck I was sitting next to person instead of on the phone. The dream was shortly before the earthquake. Another time was Northridge and if you haven't heard the story I would be glad to tell it again sometime.
Look at things from Don in Berkeley's point of view, coming on this site is like an atheist walking into a church on Sunday and pointing out all the logical fallacies before the service starts, especially on the Groans board.
What caused you so much pain was the fact that Dib called out our 'scientific' attraction to each other to hurt you and he made some hurtful comments about you that he thought I would pick up on. And to compound matters what Sheila was pointing out the 'scientific attraction' and suggested that we take it to the next level not realizing or taking into account that you have a significant other and that I prefer to remain relatively anonymous.
That's why I warned you to be vague as Mr Vague here about your personal life. Now don't get me wrong I really like Sheila and have learned quite a bit from her, but while her matchmaking was a nice gesture well every action has consequences and I don't want ever to hurt you emotionally again. So.....
I didn't get the ' his name backwards thing' by the way. Explain it again.

Wait a minute! What does 'scientific attraction' mean?
I don't have a 'significant other'...only a very long term 'platonic' friend who has assisted me over the years since my husband died OCT.3, 1987, just two days after Whittier Narrows quake. Didn't want to get into that here, but you seem to have deduced from a few of my comments that it was something more. Yes, we have lived together...as roommates and business partners, and have experienced much over the years...however, he knows I have to have my own life now and is assisting me in that regard. Once I relocate...I am on my own...and free to be myself once again!
You want to 'remain relatively anonymous'...meaning you don't ever want to meet?
Hey...

Didn't mean to bring all that up, tragic!
Anyway I recall you saying you had a Bill in one of the conversations, I guess I read something into it that wasn't there.
Well obviouly you were attracted by my mental acuity ( or lack thereof LOL ) because we have never really met.
As I said without being specific and as you term it being Mr. Vague, yes I want to remain relatively anonymous. I already hurt you emotionally twice and definitely don't want it happening again.
So Mr. Vague will be specific, no we shouldn't meet. It will only bring problems down the line. Of course I'm attracted to your mind and personality. I really like Redhart's mind also and I believe she thought I was hitting on her, I wasn't at all. I'm just attracted to intelligent women and especially one with an effervescent personality such as yours.
As I said I like Sheila a lot also (I'm tap dancing now ). As to the uh 'scientific attraction', obviously there is some serious chemistry there so no way do I want it to go further than this site, however ironically when you resettle we may be able to do business together. I guess we would have to meet for that huh? I deduced that from some of your previous business ventures.

What were these past few months all about? You don't want to hurt me anymore emotionally, but now you're breaking my heart? What happened between this morning and now? I don't get it... help me to understand...I'm not pushing you...I thought there was something so real between us that you wanted it too!
What do you mean problems down the line? So now you're clairvoyant? How do you know that I'm not exactly what you need? And which business venture were you speaking about, where you would be forced to meet me? Gee, thanks! Well...this is your only opening...after this I slam the door...hard!
I truly did not see this coming...why now?

See now you're just reminded me that I did it again, exactly what I said I would never do. And this is playing out in public. It really makes me look bad.
Anyway the last thing I want to do is break your heart. Your are such a sweet girl.
On the other hand you're being just a little bit unfair.
I mean have we met? And it's been days not months. A couple of weeks at the most. You are really making me feel terrible.
I can't imagine how bad you feel. Was I leading you on? I mean did I ever imply any more than talking on the Internet? If I did I don't remember, seriously not being facetious.
I see I've done it again, made a mess. Again for the third time sorry doesn't even begin to make up for it.

"Obvious, ain't it?"
YOU are making youself look bad...! You SHOULD feel terrible!
Yes, you did lead me on...Yes, you did imply more!
Sorry doesn't even come close!
I wasn't going to meet you until after I had relocated...because of my current situation...which could be months, but now you have taken that away...even though you say that you would have to meet me for a possible business venture after I relocate...seems like the timing is exact...but for differing reasons...you still haven't said what business you are talking about...and I don't know if I can trust doing business with a cad! Tell me more!

Well looks like I put my foot in my mouth again. I feel really low, not a good feeling at all. Forget the business venture. It was a slim chance anyway.
As for leading you on I really don't remember saying anything like we'll meet or get together. I believe it appeared that way to many on this site and they made that assumption. You possibly got influenced by the suggestions and innuendo like a high school atmosphere. It's not your fault, I take full responsibility for this mess and I don't know how to make it up to you.
I can honestly say that I never even insinuated we would meet in real life to see where it went from there. As a female you should be cautious anyway about meeting someone from the Internet, men lie.
I never said anything specific because all I've ever said on this site is that I live in Los Angeles and I used to live in Venice. Other than that I haven't divulged any personal information.
I'm sure many on this site would agree that I led you on but no one can point to specific words to that effect. As I said of course there is chemistry there and of course everyone can see that, however I apologize again for giving the impression or vibes that it would be more than friends on the Internet.
I guess we won't be friends anymore because it will just restart everything all over again.
If you post something on topic I'll respond because earthquakes are one of my passions.

Phil, I resent your comments about me, and will likely respond, sooner or later if I get the urge. Right now, that pseudo-romance Lofty is carrying on with you smells suspiciously like a scam of some sort. If so, it is possible that the guy she is rooming with might be part of it. Nobody in their right mind goes to a chat board to pick up strangers for romance. It seems as if you have cut it off. Great move, imo, if you are able to shut her up.

Then stop behaving like a teenager with raging hormones. If you had anything worthwhile to offer, why wouldn't you show it in person? Did all the available unmarried males hightail it out of LA after you began following them around with a preacher, a bible, and dual wedding bands?
The thing that makes me suspect that you are a fraud, is the timing of your first appearance on these boards, and the time it took for you to make serious advances toward Phil. Either you are a kook, a fraud, or a loser. Choose one.
Let it go, Phil, this is not an attack on you, this is just between me and her.

You are insane...stop making up stories.
Anything worthwhile to offer...show it in person? Well that's not going to happen now, thanks to you. He'll never know what he's missing. All he knows is my mind, my humor, my sweetness (sorely tested by you), my 'effervescent personality'...his words! Plus my forgiving nature...to which he will attest!
Serious advances? I was getting to know everyone at the same time by all of our mutual postings with no intent whatsoever, other than being a worthy contributor with something interesting to say.
My feelings for Phil were unrecognizable at first because I haven't allowed myself to be vulnerable...now I see why not...I won't make that mistake again...I just trusted and was too open with my heart, thinking it was mutual because he made the first overture, though he denies everything now...how can I argue about his lack of feeling for me...if he says nothing was there, I have to accept that as true. There is no scam, there's nothing there, I'll bow out!
You need to ask yourself why you harbor such animosity toward me...do I remind you of someone who wounded you deeply and now you must take it out on anyone remotely similar in disposition or manner, even without seeing them? And do the same with others' relationships out of envy or jealousy? I know that I am not the only one to incur your wrath..you are infamous...your works speak for themselves and your reputation precedes you. Very sad!
Yes, I am a baby boomer...so what? I never denied that nor tried to hide that fact. I've spoken many times about driving over the epicenter of the Sylmar quake in 1971 prior to its occurrence...do the math! All I can say is I am fit, healthy, look much younger than many people younger than I am...because I take care of myself, eat right, don't smoke, exercise, take vitamins and supplements, and most of all think loving thoughts and practice forgiveness as a way of life...Diapers? No...Lingerie Yes. Now get lost DIB... MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Sorry to interrupt your diatribe. Now looking back I do remember an advance when you said I was cute and I said flattery will get you everywhere. I'm not denying anything I just had to think back and yes that certainly was an advance.
And if course I have feelings for you I like you very much. I never denied that, it's just that I don't want to see you hurt. Falling that fast for me? I'm flattered of course, it's just that it's better to stop now before more and possibly greater pain later. I see that we can't just be friends. One cannot deny their feelings and as I said before looking back I certainly was leading you on unfairly at that.
That doesn't mean I will shut you out on this site, as I said I love talking about one of my obsessions, seismology. So as long as it's on topic we can most certainly talk. I feel like meeting you in person would accelerate the process too much too fast, that's why I'm backing off. Of course I know you're beautiful although without you seeing what I look like may be a shock if you did. Hey I could be a 600 lb ogre or even a skinny ogre LOL. Anyway you know it's not smart hooking up with someone on the Internet, especially for women.
Who doesn't want to be loved? Maybe DIB but that's another story. By the way DIB's meddling had nothing to do with putting the brakes on. Nothing he said swayed me one iota. Especially that nonsense about a scam.
Love you for who you are and remember love doesn't always involve touching.

That started the whole conversation that involved your name and LoftDweller was responding.
You can make your point without the name calling, that appears to make it personal.
Where you and I disagree is I do believe we all have intuitive survival senses that we constantly use. No need to argue about subjective issues.
Now you've been around long enough to know that LoftDweller is just one of many who believe in ear tones, the Groans board is full of em and she's not even the main one. I wonder who started the notion anyway?
I tried to explain to some who I thought would actually think about it that it's normal for the ear to respond to barometric pressure. Of course there are other normal changes that go on inside the ear that they probably should read about and almost certainly won't. It's nice to have beliefs until they become dogma, then they start wars.
I used your example about the tadpole singing the national anthem etc. about how difficult it would be to change minds regarding beliefs that are now entrenched on the Earth Groans board. That's when LoftDweller rekindled her feud with you. A feud I knew nothing about or I woudn't have referenced your term, pseudoscience.
In essence there is some kind of narcissistic thing (or whatever the correct term is) in thinking one has special sensitivity to 'hearing' seismic events BEFORE they occur.
Obviously those who believe they have these special 'gifts' are following the tack that they can perceive something that sensitive instruments can't, the old man vs. machine thing only on Groans it's got to be 99% women. Delicate creatures that they are. Dontcha just love em. I do.
Unfortunately perception is greater than reality.

I do not see why there can't be equipment for detecting what some people hear prior to quakes. Sometimes several people report in and have similar location and mag strength for an impending quake.
Petra and Don have developed a technique for triangulating tones for close quake location. It requires several people that can hear tones though and register the length of tones.
Some people hear tones differently and have reverse direction of east or west for locating.
I hear some tones and have predicted some quakes with that method , one was a 7 mag quake off Japan several years back with exact location to less than a degree of predicted epicenter . A powerful left ear tone was a big part of locating that future quake that happened within 8 days.
A friend of mine also hears some tones. One day he said to me , let me tell you what happened to me. I said I'll tell you. On Saturday night around 8 pm your right ear went partially deaf for an hour. He was astounded, I told him the same thing happened to me at the same time. The loud speaker in the TV also went haywire and bass sounded flabby and garbled. Magnets are in loudspeakers, sometimes magnets slide off refrigerators before quakes. In this case there was no quake, Mt Etna had a severe eruption at that time. I live on the east coast USA near the same latitude as Mt Etna in Italy.
Sometimes pains in the body relate to quakes, but not every pain is related to a quake. A guy I worked with had migraines, almost every time he got one a 7 mag quake would strike the next day or so. Now if you tell me my great great great grandad was a Trilobite , I'd call that speculative pseudoscience. Ear tones are real and sometimes occur before quakes.

Hi Steve,
That's a strong statement.... but until there is some type of evidence it can't be said that ear tones are scientific. They simply aren't. Everyone gets a tone or ringing in one ear from time to time and if you want to correlate it there is always some type of earthquake, volcano, solar flare, etc. going on that people claim is the cause. The human mind is strong in pattern recognition but we often fool ourselves in trying to find a correlation or pattern where there is none.
People on this board and others want to relate ear tones and minor aches to specific events but it cannot be said that it's scientific. And from I've seen there are few correct predictions from them.
> I do not see why there can't be equipment for detecting what some people hear prior to quakes.
Exactly.... that would make it scientific. Which isn't the case here.
Merry Christmas
Jim

There is evidence. Ignoring evidence does not invalidate evidence. Roger Hunter has lots of evidence. It never met his ridiculously severe standard, but evidence nonetheless. Petra has evidence, Jody's data was tested, also evidence. The Syzygyjob website if it still has archives from 1998 to 2006 has lots of evidence that is time stamped.
The interruption or spike in radio anomalies on certain frequencies may correlate to ear tones and quakes. Jack Cole has been observing these radio signal disturbances for years.
People have written info about various types of sounds they hear and how they relate to impending quakes and eruption as well as quakes at sea.
One scientist from Greece has been measuring Earth's electrical anomalies that may relate to these ear tones and sounds.
People should not be so quick to bark down new ideas that challenge the prevailing paradigm of ignorance.
I think some smart people will someday make equipment to capture these sounds even if they are inaudible to most people. Some of these may be magnetic waves detected by the inner parts of the ears and may not vibrate the actual ear drums.
There are also Infrasonics and ultrasonics that people hear as a type of temporary Tinnitus prior to quakes.
Jim have a great Christmas, be well.

Hi Steve,

That's the point, isn't it? A lot of people make a lot of claims about ear tones but it hasn't done any better than random chance. A lot of people claiming it hear signs of earthquakes doesn't make it evidence and if all these claims can't be shown to have any more accuracy than random chance it can't be claimed it's scientific.
> The interruption or spike in radio anomalies on certain frequencies may correlate to ear tones and > quakes. Jack Cole has been observing these radio signal disturbances for years.
Sure, I've seen the Jack Cole's thing over the years. It's pretty pathetic Steve. Personally I have trouble believing anyone could buy into that BS. I've noticed 3-4 times a year someone spams Jack Cole stuff on earthwatchers and few people bite. Probably the least credible of all the predicting earthquakes claims I've seen.
> think some smart people will someday make equipment to capture these sounds even if they are inaudible to > most people. Some of these may be magnetic waves detected by the inner parts of the ears and may not > vibrate the actual ear drums.
I personally don't rule out the possibility that some type of sound or radio frequency may help in predicting earthquakes.... but the flood of unproven claims doesn't make it scientific and obvious frauds like Jack Cole certainly don't help the credibility of the subject.
Have a Merry Christmas Steve!
Jim

Jim if you think it is random chance, Make 100 predictions over the year and record them with locations and time window, quakes 4 mag or better to qualify. No sitting on the several hot spots like Roger did a few years back. Report back with your results. I doubt you will do as well as the couple of people around these boards that use tones to predict quakes. Some of the ear tone people have predicted lots of 7 mag and even a few over 8 mag. Getting 1 could be a lucky guess getting over a dozen in the 7+ mag range isn't. Coles' work needed to be expanded with several stations to have any chance to triangulate positions. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.
So what do you think, will Mt. Merapi on Java have an eruptive blast soon ? Steve

I agree 100%.
I guess we can figure out from their comments who the narcissists are. Turning the board into a lovers spat is also narcissistic and infantile.

Who said we're lovers? What's going on here? Is there a memo I didn't get. You weren't suppose to see that.
Sorry for hogging up the data and space.

Oh and just for the record ear tones are not a scientific indicator of an impending seismic event, near or distant. Never proven or never a hypothesis as far as I know.
Don't make me go DIB on y'all.

Phil talk to Don in Hollister, he may have some good ideas on the topic. He and Petra have done work with ear sounds for years. Keep an open mind.
