I understand your frustration, but that kind of hyperbole is hardly constructive, and ignores the fact that we all, with rare exceptions, share the blame for the decline of our nation. What our country needs now is a great leader from the younger generation who has the wisdom and vision to change our prevailing plutocracy into a true democracy. Unfortunately, nobody younger than 50 seems interested in the job. That's not too surprising. I wouldn't want it, when all it takes is one term to turn your hair grey.

Nobody wants the job because you have to make an agreement with the dark side to be a politician...of necessity you become "in league with the devil."

By devil I mean those who rule the planet from behind the curtain (as in the Wizard of Oz) ...the directors or puppeteers. Some say it is 13 families that decide the fate of the planet. The puppet masters require strict obedience to their plotted out regime and their timely maneuvers. It seems that they rely heavily on astrology so that dates and places that things happen are very important to them. They are not nice people either. Their control reaches to the world banking system, stock market and planetary defense systems.

Making an agreement with them to get to a high political seat means subjection to threats against your family. If the puppeteers do not want a candidate in office who is not obedient to their desires, they use threats and extortion against them...mafia tactics...they dig up all the garbage and skeletons they can find and use it against a potentially good and honorable candidate.

Therefore, in the end, whether Republican or Democrat, those seated in the highest places of government are still controlled and do what they are told...or else!
Betty

Sorry I must have overlooked your post a while ago.

Certainly it is true that power, greed, and corruption are serious problems wrt our politicians, but your message sounds a little paranoid. I suspect you have visited a few websites that tend to feed on such energy. Be careful not to overstate the situation, because that just exacerbates the problem.

It's an exaggeration to separate society into us noble voters against those savage political devils, because us and them are just in different positions on the yardstick. If each of "us" had the power and the opportunity, who can say what would entail from our own motivations? Whether or not we would remain "noble", it seems to me that the problem persists because of the failure of our society to provide the corrective means to hold the greedy power brokers in check, and our voters failure to hold them accountable in elections. If the public is unable to separate the wheat from the chaff in political mudslinging, then it is our fault for not putting more thought into whom we elect.

I don't think there are many people of any political stripe who believes in astrology anymore.

Wrote the above message without giving it much thought. For one thing, Obama was under 50 when he became president. The rest of it is not any better, and this is on the wrong board, so I will just add a few comments.

The young leader I said we need is one who will lead the people, not as president, but to make better judgments about our candidates for political office. If we could build a third party by uniting the middle-class majority to support better government for all the people, instead of personal self-interest of the mega-billionaires, then perhaps we might begin to get our nation back on the right track. It would be tough for a third party to get traction, but if the divide between the one-percent minority and the rest of us gets any wider, then perhaps that will be the only way to stop greedy plutocrats from stealing all the country's resources.

we deserve.

We put up with fraud in banking, as long as it happens to somebody else. We overpay for everything. We allow ourselves to be duped by TV ads selling us stuff we don't use. We don't volunteer sensibly to help those in need. We don't push our school boards to do right by our kids. We don't educate ourselves to understand what's going on. We don't follow up to see that our charitable dollars are spent well. We run to the shiny and novel, and forget about taking care of tradition and history.

Hell, 50 percent of the population can't name our first four presidents!!

We all want something for nothing.

Can't argue with any of it. Don't know if those would be my top choices for a list of a half-dozen or so ills of our society, but most likely, ask a million US citizens what their six pet peeves with our country are, and you would likely get a million different answers.

Hi dib,

From the article: "The president hasn't lived up to any of his promises"

To that I can only say no shit Sherlock. The man has pretty much broken every promise he has ever made.

But then we have activist Bill McKibben who never met a natural disaster he wouldn't attempt to link to climate change trying to scare people. McKibben is famous for over the top statements such as "Irene's got a middle name, and it’s global warming" regarding hurricane Irene. McKibben wants Obama to shut down the fossil fuel industry in this country... damn the consequences to the people and full speed ahead!

So I guess the point is a lying politician and a crazed activist will never get along.

Cheers

Jim

It's difficult to say whether he is or not.

Is was just as difficult when he was running for office and elected, to
judge who he was. He was this mystery who seemingly came out of
nowhere, but he was a Democrat and we need to elect the President
to find out what is in him. (Sound familiar?)

Well now we know, just another typical lying two faced professional
politician. Nothing surprising at all. At least Clinton was a Rhodes
scholar, that alone commands respect.

So, if Obama is pissing off the far left and the far right, he is doing his
job well (like any good politician), playing to the middle %'s.

People tried looking at his community activist past thinking he would
be a community activist President. Perhaps he intended to shake up
the country club er golf course to tilt a bit away from their 99%
whiteyness. So far he has been unsuccessful but will continue to the
bitter end to lobby firsthand for real Change. One link at a time.

So not sure how "liberal" or environMENTAL you expected him to
be? Disappointed? Why? He was never a leader and never will be
one. He does what he's told and that's that.

I would add that Obama is also pissing off the liberals who put him in office, and it's the liberals who elected a president who had little experience in political office. Imo, his weakness is that he is a very poor leader, makes too many mistakes in choosing advisers, getting pushed in the wrong direction, and goes for the compromise rather than sticking to his principles. And yes, he is well aware of the power behind his presidency.

I said at the time he was nominated that I thought Hillary would have been a better choice. Imo, she will be our next president, and will make a lot better president than Obama has been.
