Can you give me the abbreviated version of this
discussion? I've had skin cancer 5 times, one time was
melanoma and I cannot spend time in the sun. I know
vitamin D is not water-soluble and you better know what
you are doing if you use it as a supplement.

My husband, a cancer patient, has vitamin D prescribed
to him by his doctor. His parathyroid isn't making quite
enough.

non water soluble vitamins should be used with caution
as they don't flush excess like water soluble ones do.
One should probably discuss it with their doctor.

It is a long video listening to two
English doctors talk about vitamin
D, sorry! My results from my blood
work showed I was low with vitamin
D, and it was suggested that I start
taking it. I was surprised as I
spend a lot of time in the sun.
These two doctors are saying as we
get older, our bodies don't absorb D
from the sun like when we were
younger, and so were more prone in
getting ill, and fighting off the
illness. I myself get check by a
dermatologist once a year and been
doing that for years, and just had
the whole family checked last week.
Melanoma was discovered on my
Brother's forearm when he was in his
late twenties, and the doctor
removed it, and fortunately he
hasn't had an issue since. He worked
on roofs down in Palm Springs in his
early 20s. Because of him, it's why
I get checked out.

Stop watching YouTube vids and go outside.

I don't know which is more important, but the two together will save your life.

Apparently you have no idea who I am
and the countless hours I've spent
in the mountains. I could out hike
most 20 years old AO!

Cool.. more power to ya!

I did the mountains.. lived at 4k for a major portion of my life, forest
mountains, and documented volcanic activity for my day job.. so yeah
humping it.. but now am more a beach and river kinda guy. I like water, and
warm water.. our ocean is 85 degrees.. and getting out there and bathing in
sunlight.. ie cranking up the good ol' vD machine.. Ain't this place
magnificent?

Btw, I wasn't commenting about/to you, specifically. Just pointing out vD is
an easy one... and it's fun!

Sounds like you live in a beautiful
place, and if so, you probably have
access to some really good local
food sources to help staying
healthy, wish I had that. I've
listened to many people who retired
to Central America who were able to
get off their meds because of the
climate, and the fresh tropical food
that's available.
What an awesome job you did! Worked
outdoors all my life in different
fields of work with two of my jobs
working outdoors with the
Government. But have had a deep love
for nature since I was a young boy
and have been hiking and backpacking
since then keeping me in shape. I
normally go off trail up steep
mountainous terrain, good for the
mind, body, and soul! My goal though
is to live somewhere tropical near
the ocean like Bocas Del Toro
Panama. Hawaii is just too expensive
and crowded with the exception of
Molokai.
The two doctors were talking about
how older people don't absorb
vitamin D like they could when they
were younger, and why that is, and
why the need to supplement with
vitamin D.

About 6 years ago my focus became glued to pushing a mouse.. my phrase
for computer work.. and I've had whole stretches.. months at a time.. where
it's 24/7 so intense I got to feeling the lack of vD.

It took me a while to realize what those feelings were, but after a whole life
outdoors sitting at a computer for long stretches imposed new concerns.
I've done this before.. had computer based projects that sit me down.. but
with age I felt it acutely, and the thought crystalized in me, I need to take
make vD breaks. Literally that's what I call them. Which means, take all my
cloth off and if not working in the garden at least laying in the sun for an
hour or so every day the sun is out.. meditate.. read a book.. I'd mow but my
neighbors would have an opinion about that.. but yeah make vD.

If life is less giving.. I get it. Folks I know that live in the mountains here..
yeah Hawaii has mountains.. the biggest on Earth.. have sun rooms. Gotta
have sun. Even if it's cold outside, gotta have sun. So, my take, as long as
one doesn't have some kind of actual abnormality that prevents them from
making vD entirely, it's a symptom of not getting enough sun. And, I
suspect, if we were to look real close, we fine we get other benefits from
sunlight that we'd be lacking as well..
