I have a wood stove and have used it in power outages.

During a blizzard one Christmas, the power went out and
I finished cooking Christmas dinner on it and we ate by
candlelight.

Gas has it's own drawbacks and dangers.
We don't have a regular gas line here. We have a propane
tank for the water heater and furnace only. Neither work
without electrical power, btw.

Yes wood stoves much better IMO, but these days I'm
seeing certain ones wanting to ban those.
