as a HVAC Lic, let me explain how A/C works. it is a virtual heat pump. it compresses a gas to the outside unit. the outside unit blows air through it and 120 degree heat is expelled, hmm almost sounds like some local temperatures around here too. then the gas is condensed into a liquid form. from that it is pumped into the inside and squirted through a misting hole. through there it enters a expansion chamber at a low pressure expanding it into a cold gas where it collects the heat inside of what ever building. the cooling coils also collect what ever moisture is in the air and it drips into a tray and sent either outside or a drain line. the "dry air" makes air conditioning and a slightly cooler air feel great. that is the why it is called "air conditioning." it is not meant to just cool or blow cold. your A/C should be set at 78 degrees for comfort and not at 60 degrees.
now as for how we shot ourselves in the foot. as population has grown 8 billion in 2007 to 16 billion in 2034 so has the number of A/C units. we are just transferring the heat inside to the outside. I for one am beginning to think we need to put in a different type of heat pump. the type that transfers the heat underground, stores it there until winter when we can reverse the system and draw all that heat back.
it would take a political miracle to get that started! just my thoughts on the matter while we all bake!?!?

I have a hybrid HVAC system. it is a older 16 model with a expensive thermostat that you can put in the costs of gas and electricity and use the least expensive way to heat. we use two of them for a very large house spread out ranch house. it was nice to have when gas prices doubled. what the gas companies do not tell you is one they give a price for the gas. and then later add on to it the costs of fuel being transferred through a pipe line. funny thing is they say the gas is cheaper than propane but when i calculated the costs of propane they are both about the same. the thermostat does accept either gas input. and true being very expensive 9K just for one. in TN electricity I think is about $.011 cents/Kwh, so it has been a lot lower price wise to use a heat pump..

I have the same thing a Trane HVAC hybrid system...the a/c is electric and the heat is gas. I don't like having gas heat much now though I have have used it many many years...I was told by my Trane installer who come to service the system whenever I call sometimes I have him come out more than once a year if it is really humid and the pan fills with water shutting down the system....I would do it myself but in the heat is not always easy for me as the pan and the heating unit is located hanging from the top of my garage...it's how many are in Florida and the fan is outside. I was asking the Trane technician if I could switch to all electric meaning heat and not have to use gas heat anymore...he said I could but it was expensive and knowing my expense limitations he did not recommend it for me and he's right...I could do it but it's out of my cost of living budget. I do have a separate gas water heater in the garage and that is fine...I have gas for the stove but I don't like to use it but some maybe in the winter as it's so hot in the summer ...all I use is a small countertop oven and I have a hot plate also a toaster. That about sums up my chronicles on gas and electric except that I have a nice paid for vehicle for locomotion purposes I use as needed. I used to be more of a traveler... a lot more...but these days I enjoy remaining in one place more.

with my hybrid it is outside and self draining. I see a lot of the newest style heat pumps mostly in the Euro region. you may see pictures of older apartments with a white out door fan box hanging near a window they cool during summer and heat during winter. they are said to be very efficient. I too enjoy travel. but recent trips have yielded what I call very high motel/hotel prices, almost double what they were before COVID. I'll be more selective before travel in the future.

p.s. The gas heat can be switched to electric heat I have thought about doing so but it's kinda costly for me but maybe you could afford to do so easily.
