The most severe hailstorm in Florida history, 20 million people are on alert
A powerful storm system wreaked havoc in parts of Texas and Florida, unleashing tennis-ball-sized hail and strong winds. The South is bracing for more severe weather as the storm system threatens to wreak more destruction Thursday. More than 60 hail reports were recorded in the area Wednesday, including softball- sized hail in Bellmead and Waco, Texas, while Florida saw 2.5-inch hail in the community of Anthony. Videos and photos captured the devastation left by the storm, as large hailstones battered pools and patios. Parts of Florida, including Orlando, were placed in a "minor hazard" extreme weather zone. Meanwhile, Louisiana was covered with a Level 2 out of 5 "minor risk" of severe weather, with damaging winds, significant hail, and tornadoes the main threats. As the storm moves into southern Texas, southern Louisiana, and the Florida Panhandle, these areas remain at risk for isolated intense storm surges, including damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes. More than 20 million people from Oklahoma and Arkansas to Alabama are on alert with Level 1 of 5 "marginal risk" of severe weather.
