Any pollinating bugs at all?
I haven't even seen the little flies and tiny bees that normally buzz around in and out of the flowers. Even the ant population seems reduced, none on the peonies this year.
I've seen a grand total of two butterflies, early spring. Haven't seen a single one since.
Flowers went through fuller more glorious bloom than they have in the last several years, but I notice as the number of insects drop, the number of blooms increase.
I don't think the increased blooming is a good sign. Beautiful though it is, it's a last dying gasp of plants trying desperately for pollination.
Can you feel that even the plants are begging now? I can. It hurts. The blooms are begging despair. The plants know they might be the last, if things don't change, and yes, they do feel, understand, and are trying to communicate.

Sounds like the majority of you are living in regions still unaffected or mostly unaffected. I hope they continue to flourish in your areas, evolve, and repopulate other regions quickly.
Much as bugs can be a nuisance (from a personal standpoint I'm enjoying not having ants in my house this year) they are needed (and from a broader perspective it worries me that I haven't yet had my yearly ant invasion).
Even the ones that can harm humans....mosquitos are pollinators too, and there are fewer of them as well....
It's possible that someone else will say it, so to pre- empt them :-):
I know honey bees are an invasive species, but our ecology has adapted to them. Ecologies change and we're not going to revert back to what we had, so many species that originally filled a niche no longer exist and the region can become dependent on the invasive species.
Thank you to those who responded, mostly sounds hopeful, though it does seem I'm not the only one witnessing rather severe problems in my area.

I really hope it's just a local glitch. If my neighborhood is any indication of future world domination, I'd have to go with the geese. Past few years they've been multiplying by the gazillions at the nearby lake. They've become fearless & downright nasty. Their crap is everywhere and their shrimpy, green offspring exude a galling sense of entitlement. I could imagine them chasing the butterflies & bees away. Fuckers.

Can't speak to other areas around me, but in my immediate community - lot and lots of bees buzzing all over flowers - this morning I counted about 5 different bees peacefully coexisting while gathering on the flowers in our front yard.

We have tons of bees, butterflies (monarchs & swallowtails), wasps, dragonflies & more here in West TN.
Also...we have 2 beehives that were lost over the winter. Don't know why. BUT...before we could get into the empty hives to inspect & maybe harvest honey they both filled back up with feral bees. lol
Tons of clover as well & every other flower has a bee on it. Makes it hard to walk around.

We have bees and butterlies here in SW Montana. The flowers around here, like lilac bushes just bloomed, and the dandelions been blooming since a couple weeks.
