The Ravine Fire that has been working its way across Kangaroo Island off the coast of South Australia has burned almost half of the area of the island, over 210,000 hectares (519,000 acres) or 48 percent. (See map of the fire above) Below is an excerpt from a January 10 article at 9News: Properties have been lost, firefighters injured and more land blackened after a night of horrific conditions across the Kangaroo Island
Posting two articles here- which might be related to the Lithium mining by so called greenies for profits/5G needing lithium plus other "green" industries of tech-freaks. Coincidence?
Kangaroo Island shows rock-solid promise for lithium
((this report came out in June about the mining ventures on Kangaroo island..and now the fires on this island -which is 1/2 the island!))
Mining and energy company Lithium Australia has reported it has found anomalous lithium and tantalum samples that suggest mining potential on Kangaroo Island in South Australia. more at link
I've been following the news from Kangaroo Island because of all the Koalas killed there by that fire. I donated to this particular group of rescuers, so I am relieved to see that the army has stepped in to join in the rescue efforts. Also, many vets are coming in to help treat them as well. Here's a 9 minute video of one of them, Dr. Scott treating some of the rescued Koalas. Get your Kleenex ready, it's heartbreaking to see these creatures so harmed by such a massive bush fire on that island and elsewhere in Australia.
Thanks, I've been following it too. Reason I posted on Envirowatches is the Lithium mining going on there. Recently surrendered areas is at Vivonne Bay as of late 2019.
first of all, I'm so sorry for hijacking your thread Pamela, we old ladies have a habit of falling in love with Koalas! I tried researching the environmental effects of lithium mining, didn't find much except that they need lots of water to mine the stuff in brine ponds. Hard rock mining is another story altogether though. Apparently what is left are deep holes that can be seen from space.
Share what you know because I'm wanting to learn about it. Thanks ahead.
There's an article about environmental pushback from Australians about these mines at the link.
Thks, Sheila , this article from 2018. THe company's plans to further the mining there at Kangaroo island-- will check out your article. THey are intending on going for the cobalt and lithium to supply the growing market for 5G, electric cars and all wireless, including more iphones, and the big tech companies/FCC slamming it thru.
"Auroch Minerals is an Australian based company with a targeted focus on the commodities involved in the Global Renewable Energy markets. It is the company’s intention to build a portfolio of quality assets with the specific focus on primary inputs crucial for the renewable energy industry, with a key focus on cobalt and lithium, both used in the production of Li ion batteries and copper."
I already posted some articles about cobalt, and much of it is from Africa and using child slave labor for it. Here is another one: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/12/19/1906363/-Renewable-Thursday-Big-Tech-Cobalt-Lawsuit
Bottom line on all of this so called renewable/sustainable/so called green tech is, it is not green at all. And that is what they are pushing and declaring it is when it is NOT. Whether it is using child labor, or trying to sell the public on green/renewable, etc, it is more than proving to most everyone that looks at it, its a farce/scam and not better than fossil fuels. Its toxic. And they are looking to make a "killing" on it. Just like the big fossil fuel giants, no matter who gets hurt.
The former FCC jerk said so too. And I have posted that video up before- he is a maniac. And while the current FCC chair is a mild speaking guy- he is just as evil. I will post another article, separate and start a new thread after this one.

here's the pdf file showing newest mining prospects on Kangaroo island for Lithium batteries(claiming it is recyclable and intents for the production to be used for so called renewables)
