Hi all,

here is some information on the state of bees that pollinate almond
trees in California.

At the end of the report you can find an example of organic almond
farming where happy healthy bees thrive. Why don't industrial
almond growers not adapt this model? Is it greed or stupidity?

it's always greed and stupidity behind most of what Big agribusiness and Big Oil does. They could care less about the environment as long as the $$ pour in.

I buy only organic almond milk, almonds since they use so much Roundup around these orchards. Same goes for apples, vegies too.

Our local bee populations here have plummeted just in the past 2 years. We've been organic growers for over 40 years so bees have always been important to our vegies and fruit trees. Last summer I could count the number of bees on my fingers, less than that for Bumblebees who are nearly gone in the valley here. I mostly blame the use of pesticides by neighbors, and farmers who spray endlessly in season.

Other species nearly gone are butterflies, dragonflies, ladybugs, etc. Rachael Carson in her book, "Silent Spring" predicted this when she wrote her famous book in 1962. I read it then which is why I switched to all things organic.
