'Catastrophic' Spill at Oil Facility Damaged by Dorian

Storyful•September 06, 2019

The Bahamas Press said on September 5 that an “environmental disaster” was unfolding on Grand Bahama after a Norwegian-owned oil-storage facility was damaged during Hurricane Dorian.

Equinor, Norway’s state-owned energy company, said it had shut down operations at its terminal, at South Riding Point, on August 31. According to its “initial aerial assessment” of the scene, it said, “oil ha[d] been observed on the ground outside of the onshore tanks.” It was “too early to indicate any volumes,” the company said.

Equinor says its Bahamas terminal can hold 6.75 million barrels of crude oil.

Coral Vita, an environmental agency that focuses on preserving coral reefs, is working with the relief efforts in the Bahamas. It posted this video from the scene, showing oil on the ground. It called the spill “catastrophic”.

Maybe some of the abundant Corexit used in the Gulf (thanks, BP!) will flow over to the Bahamas and, I don't know, fight the new oil spill?

it was so muggy and hot during that hurricane and this in Oregon! Dunno why but it finally changed today so we are getting fresh ocean air in the 70 degrees and it going to rain!
I posted info on Sandhill crane hunting in Alabama, and some info on Florida cranes for you! :)

It's still hot and yucky in FL, the air feels dirty ...have not come
across fresh air in I can't recall when. I saw the posts you shared,
sad abut crane hunting ...what a world...the killing spirit has the
pedal to the metal 24/7.
