Subject: high pressure builds over the hot water south of the Gulf of Alaska

and that causes the jet stream to bend far to the north

and as the jet stream goes nearly to the pole or over it

mass quantities of extremely cold air are entrained by the jet stream

this entrained cold air then flows south as the jet stream turns and pours down out of Alberta along the front ranges of the rocky mountains

simple, but that "blob" of warm water out in the eastern Pacific is the whole and entire cause for the Alberta clippers
