btw, I also had a close relative who was a forest fire fighter... got pneumonia two times fighting these fires in S Cali, growing up in San Diego country side, hot dry, windy, little to no rain, yeah, 60 some years ago. Only things that's changed? More people. More pollution. More negligence. They really need to own up to living there in such potential conditions. And have a better plan than what most developers offer. Which is NOTHING.
Need more responsible people owning up to the hazard- its a fact of life there.

Not exactly--the rains are not starting until Dec and
sometimes February now. They used to come in October
and start up. I've been here, and am here, and can tell
you the patterns have changed a lot. I'm a native
Californian...have been here my whole life.

The monsoons have also been failing in the summer in
so. calif, which means everything is that much dryer
come November when the "devil winds" kick in.

Good thing we just had a major soaking Wednesday
night and all day yesterday. Fire danger
probably nil, at least locally. Recent burn
areas, though, likely mud (and rock) slide risk,
as usual. Glad to be down in the 60's now,
temperaturewise,...thought summer would never
end! LOL

Are you talking about Tehachapi where you live? I was mentioning L.A. greater L.A and also San Diego. Granted, less rain some years and hotter some years. Heres a temp and rain chart for high/low temps and years. I left in 1998. From what children tell me, and what I experienced in the L.A area only. One son lives in the foothills of LA- but also used to work downtown LA. Daughter lives in Santa Clarita. Forests are dying in San Diego. And LA. Definite climate changing. But its always been so for the years I knew and grew up there. Used to be orange groves downtown LA where my grandfather was born. Not any more. People have changed the climate with their ways- but some know how to bring it back to life. Permaculture for one thing. If it wasn't for the Colorado, taking water from there, it would be allot worse.
Yes, I'm 3rd generation native Calif. It was 107 in the summer of 1998, in San Fernando Valley area where I lived and worked.

this chart shows temps/rain for 1997, a year before I left.
