uh...yup, just watched another engine going by...have my scanner on, my fire lists, my coffee, my chocolate.
We have the Deer Fire coming up the west side of Bear Mountain, evacuations going on over on the west side of the neighborhood (the neighborhood is several miles wide, so I'm on the very east side..and okay).
I'm listenign to a couple of pilots fighting to save some structure on Deer Trail Drive up at the top of the ridge.
500 acres since 2pm...0 containment. They are bringing in the DC-10 (the big boy)
We're starting to feel a might picked on up here. I was up until 4am watching an 18 acre fire on Cummings mountain 3 mi south of us...lots of flame leaping and orange glowing smoke. They got that out this morning just after dawn.
yeah, another long night.
here's some info pages:

There's a pilot I've nicked named "Han Solo"...he's pretty entertaining to listen to over the scanner, waved off a request to return to base said he had retardant left and there was another flame he just had to squash. You can almost hear him "Yee haw" on his dives. I swear I heard a wookie in the background.
He vowed to return and rescue us in the morning lol.
More evacuations expanding. Here's a map that was just posted (again, I'm not in the red zone and okay).

Fire's 1,000 acres now, and over the scanner I heard the FFs talking that the "right flank" (believe their talking about the south flank) looked pretty good, but that left flank (north) looked like it was head toward the town of Hart Flat, flanking the mountain.
No homes lost so far, but I've listened to a couple real close calls on that on the scanner as pilots had flames "kissing" stuctures and diving down to save them. And here I thought I'd be bored that Game of Thrones ended.
We also now have a Red Cross evacuation center set up in the Town of Tehachapi at Jacobsen Jr. High school.

Evacs expanding and command center drawing up plans to possibly evacuate the small community of Hart Flat to the north of the current fire.
Above is an aerial photo taken by helicopter firefighters with mobile phones about 45 minutes prior to me posting this. Got it off the Kern county website.
