I'm really concerned about what may be a bridge "foreshock" of the big one.
There is a major bridge, the I 74, crossing the Mississippi from Moline, Illinois to Davenport, Iowa. The bridge was opened in 1935 and was built to handle 48,000 cars per day. Now 80,000 plus cars cross it every day.
In the last week there was a popping up of the finger jointed expansion joint causing tires on at least three cars to be flattened. They say that a bolt failed. Sure, it was cold, but it has been cold in other winters too. Is it possible that that portion of the bridge, that bridge section, is failing? Could this be a fore warning that the kind of disaster that happened in Minneapolis will be happening on the I 74 bridge?
A replacement bridge is to be completed by 2020. Maybe they ought to consider shortening the timeframe.

bridges and overpasses have been published for YEARS by extremely reputable sources, but the congress has refused to consider doing much about it except making patches after disasters. It would take organization, planning, funding, and the possibility of raising taxes to pay for it all so the congress has not been capable of doing much about it. They'd rather fund raise and schmooze. They are probably waiting for a consortium of really rich guys to get together and figure out how they can milk vast amounts of money from the projects, write up a detailed project/plan to present to congress, and then bribe the individual congress people to vote on it.
