it’s not just methane coming out of that hole… This is global crisis, more importantly this is a local crisis. Because not only do you have methane — you have benzene, toluene, xylene, which are carcinogenic. You have hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide — which are neurotoxic, which can injure your brain, affect memory, injure your kidneys, your liver, your other bodily organs. There’s also a lot of radon gas being measured in the area.

Notice how we hear no further reports from people in the area and NO measurements of radiation! Damn those EPA dudes! They need to get a backbone and publish the data.

is there a map yet illustrating the intensity of the problem... zoned out to the point of a relatively safe distance from the issue?

Most of the winds coming out of S. CA. come through AZ and ,by the way of the crow, it's really not that far away. Many in my area of AZ have most of the symptoms as the people they moved out - except the nose bleeds. I am worried too that if that thing explodes it might set off a lot of fault lines

I had not heard that AZ people are feeling the gases. Where are the geigers, darnit? If you're in an area with 3-600 CPM of high alpha-beta-gamma's, get the heck out, I say! Ignorance may be bliss only in the short run, in this case. Thanks for reporting the AZ area. I've not seen a SW blog on this topic yet.
I did see a map of methane gases in the U.S., with no link, that shows there is Methane coming up in several spots, one on the mid-California border. What certain people have seen as 'plumes' on infrared, may in fact be METHANE - ya? Is it methane showtime yet or we're just beginning to ramp a doomsday methane party? I hope not.
