Just saw a ways back that dear Polly doesn't seem to be posting anymore; no doubt if she were, she'd have done this already. Sure hope she's okay.
Yep, what everyone who lives around here has been worried about for years has happened. Oak Creek Canyon is on fire from Slide Rock State Park (a few miles north of Sedona) up to the northern end of the canyon. All of 89A through the canyon is closed. This morning fire crews feel confident their fire breaks have blocked the fire's NE path where it was going up Pumphouse Wash toward Kachina Village and Mountainaire. 3000 homes up there. Hope they're right. Fire's veered off a bit NW now. Winds have been a big issue; they're expected to continue to be, and I can hear 'em coming up outside already...
Smoke in the whole Verde Valley was crazy this morning. Attaching a network news video...

Was up this past week... it appears that the fire crews did a fantastic job at saving the homes, and businesses in the fire's path.
Lots of signs of praise and thanks to the fire crews, and others for their heroics.
It is all north of slide rock and on up the canyon, side canyons, and switchbacks along 89A.
I made it as far up as the road closure at the 89A switchbacks leading up to Flagstaff... and did not go to the northern most end of it from the other side yet.
The burn area will take a very long time to recover, if ever... unless this many years long drought in the west comes to an end.

I was thinking about Polly this morning also....glad she
posted...we had the smoke all the way down here in the
valley this morning...so so sad oak creek canyon is so
beautiful...
