Subject: 6 Climbers Missing on Mt. Rainier, Falling 3,000 feet

News this morning of 6 climbers who are missing from an estimated 3,000 foot fall on Mt. Rainier yesterday. Sad news. The mountain was out in full glory yesterday, under perfect blue skies.
I've never had a desire to climb, other than climbing tall trees when I was a kid.
They haven't located the climbers, it is too risky with continual falling ice and rock on Liberty Ridge, one of the most dangerous climbs on Mt. Rainier. They did find their climbing gear, and experts say there was no way to survive a 3,000 foot fall.
Having personally known someone who died in a mountain climbing avalanche, I've never had the desire to make that sport part of my routine. Jumping over crevasses and crossing horizontal ladders over bottomless falls, no thanks. I pray for their families whose weekend turned to tragedy.

yes, I was reading about that last night Lynn....so very sad and so hard for the families .....some 'wonder' why there are so many who are intrigued/compelled to climb like that and do so many seemingly dangerous things....Interesting the ways we all 'chose' to live our lives...some jump into the jaws of the tiger over and over loving the experiences that physical challenges can give them...my dad climbed mt shasta as a young man, have a few shots of that...and he was not a climber or a physical man besides playing golf.....must have been a personal challenge to him. I climbed mt lassen as a teen with a couple of classmates....but mt lassen is easy peasy.....so not much challenge there!...

yes, prayers for them and their families....
