Subject: Typhoon Haiyan: Thousands feared dead in Philippines

The worst case scenario which many hoped would be proven unfounded has indeed materialised.

In one city an estimated 10,000 people have died - many drowned as what amounted to a tsunami 13ft / 4 metres deep flooded coastal areas.

Now there is an untold number of desperate starving shelterless people walking around in a state of shock, looting for food and water.

I suppose the lucky ones are those who could and did flee in advance. However, they may still need food, shelter, new employment, etc.

I've linked a BBC news article but as relief efforts continue so the data in the news report can only worsen.

I am horrified at whats happened.

unimaginable....my god, where would anyone start to try to get to people to help/find them?....I don't know how anyone could even find their homes...and looks like most of the 'homes' were very flimsy ....

we have family related to ones in the Philippines, of course am wondering if any of them are hurt/etc?
