PG & E's page .. shows many outage around Diablo Cyn . Not sure whats happening , cos how could there be that many downed lines , or repairs being performed on Sunday night?
Power went out for about 5 seconds each , 4 x in a few hours , so taking my chances here on this computer without back up power. The thing is the PG and E outage map page shows that many repairs in many cities..all at once?

One of the problems stated in the article I posted on EW, was since San Onofre went offline for good, it makes it more difficult to import juice from other states. High voltage is needed to send the dancing little electrons on their merry way. More local power generation is what is needed. I've heard no calls for workers to Diablo from our hall, so nothing manor is going on there as far as I can tell.
However, California has been, and perenially will be in a power crisis mode as long as the environMENTALists and the EPA dictate form over function. I dont want any reactors, we can make it without nukes. We cannot repeat cannot even remotely fulfill demand with solar and wind, will never happen. A noble goal, something worth pursuing to augment and lessen our requirements for fossil fuels, but there's a price to pay either way. Land will be transformed from wilderness to millions of acres of solar panels. Wind turbines can only be situated (like solar panels) in certain areas to be efficient. They have a shelf life. They require fossil fuel burning industry (and many toxic chemicals) to maintain. There is no way around it, though it makes good talking points for politicians. Brightsource (constructed by Bechtel btw) is a joke, unsustainable without taxpayer dollars. Constructed to a much smaller scale than originally planned.
There are no easy, environmentally friendly answers. Pick your poison.

They have been switching over up here from coal power to wind power recently...in eastern Oregon. Since we sell most of the power to you guys..might be an reason.

It came back on full..but 4 x down. We are next to the power plant and PG E not sure what happened , maybe there is some news this morning. ( I found some at link on the outage ) looking at the times of the outages in each city .. it looks systematic.. probably trying to get the back -up generators at Diablo working,LOL! who will tell us what it is? It's under investigation now.
note: We did hear humming off shore from big fishing boats late at night? there was practically 0 visibility, and it was heavy drizzle like rain.

yep, my sister who lives near SLO said there's been "brown outs" for the past couple of days. Ok now but strange that they'd do that without big heat waves happening. Remembering Enron and Grandma Millie - brownouts galore back in the day. Wondering if power cos are playing games?

it's frustrating because the "newscaster" acts like every thing is peachy keen, don't worry, doesn't tell us the cause any more specifically than 'possible equipment failure' and leaves us dangling in the dark like mushrooms trying to psyche out what caused that relatively large area to go down.. and being this time of year in that area having diablo canyon hooked up to it doesn't calm the cat, ya know?

after a long period of dry weather, so more outages would be expected.
Dust and pollen build up in the power line connections, and cause things to short out when they get wet.
Probably will improve when the weather dries out.

also have had lots of mini brown outs prior to this, and I thought it was fixed because PG E was working on a pole wire up the street last week.
