Today I ended up in the Emergency room at NYU Medical Center. It's very cold here and I start coughing and coughed up blood ... since I've been really tired and was in the city after an interview, I figured that it was best to have it checked out. Thank God everything turned out A- O-K!
So, i found out some things ... NYU Langone REALLY GOT HIT from Sandy ... Their ER on the ground floor is a take in patient type of small rooms. The real one is on the 16th floor cs the guy who wheeled me up to the real ER told me a few things.
Their basement and their cafeteria are gone. The whole side of the buildings by the FDR Drive, on the East River side, are in construction being renovated and won't be ready until sometime in 2014. They're doing construction even in the lobby that exists. There's plastic covers everywhere. He was telling me to where the water had come up as we were crossing the lobby and BOY THAT WAS HIGH WATER!!! The news really DIDN'T show the reality of HOW BAD THEY GOT HIT!!! I would've FREAKED OUT to even be in that hospital and have the water come up that high ... It was MAJOR! Those people that evacuated those babies ... COURAGEOUS HUMAN CRITTERS were they!!!
They still have pretty strict security and they're making do with this sort of ambulatory type of services ...
Only in NY kids, Only in NY! ... Like Cindy Adams always says ...

Incredible how played down our media is until a disaster gets in the face of everyone else! Is the area east of the river all below sea level? I remember something about the construction of the Twin Towers requiring industrial strength protection from water at the foundation level but wasn't sure if it was the whole city.
I hope your trip to the ER is your only one for a looooong while- :) Coughing up blood? You mean, like lungs coughing up blood? Sounds serious (that would send me to the ER too). Did they give you a TB test too? Stay well please. I got exposed to TB when we had an asian influx in SF. Boy did I get a reaction to the TB test, big time. Had to take INH for six months.

Poly,
You know what it is ... we see these disasters on TV and I've been there before so I knew the water on TV was HIGH ... BUT ... It's one thing to see it on TV and another thing to be there and really see the construction they're doing ... and then thinking 'what if I was a patient when that was happening?' And it takes on THE REAL MEANING of what IT MUST'VE BEEN LIKE! The FDR is O.K. It's just reconstruction around there.
The WTC was different cs if I remember correctly, reading it that whole area was marsh. So they did a landfill and built special 'tub' foundations to put the 2 buildings in. That whole lower West Side area, SW tip of Manhattan, that is mosly filled in.
No, I'm O.K. It was scary though cs I thought the same thing ... I've been tired and it's cold and I thought I had either a weak lung spot or even pnemonia cs that can come on easily with the cold.
SO ... EVERYTHING IS A- OK!! The lungs are all clear, nothing in them except what should be there and it's all in good order and the heart is clear and good size, as the doctor said. OOOPH! Guys this was a WAKE UP CALL for me to REALLY CHANGE MY LIFE!!! PERIOD! And that is GOING TO BE SO ...
Mucho love to you earthboppins!

One more thing ... the dr said something in my sinus probably burst and I swallowed it, which in that cold and walking, I probably wouldn't have felt it, and I coughed it out ...
I'M SO GLAD TO BE ALIVE AND LIVING!!! YOU HAVE NO IDEA!!!
