had seen the 'tubes' and stories about so many homeless living in the old stations/tubes/tunnels in new york etc.....and of course with the massive flooding, I had to wonder if any of them made it out to safety or survived at all?....I am pretty darned certain the authorities don't give a crap about them and aren't looking for any of them.

if you are rich and owned beachfront property before Sandy ... the tax payers are going to shell out billions for trucking in vast amounts of sand to restore that beachfront property to its pristine original condition
if you are poor and rented a dump in the lowlands you should consider yourself lucky to be alive ... and of course you've fallen through the gaping holes in what they laughingly call the social safety net
what did you think would happen ...?... the government don't care about you and isn't going to worry about you ... so fend for yourself ... we understand old packing crates can be made habitable

Kay,
The lovely IDIOT NY POLITICIANS now have the possible brilliant idea of special gates that close at each subway station ... an idea which at FIRST GLANCE sounds great. It apparently worked for the Goldman Building which had 9ft of water outside, during Sandy, but still had the lights on at times when the flooding was going on and they're like 2.5 blocks from the sidewalk on the Hudson River ... At the time I saw the picture, I figured they had to be under severe damage since I happened to have been working at a nearby building which had LOADS of basement, electronics, etc damage.
BUT ... If you really think about these supposed gates closing at stations, if there are any of these mole people down there, they may end up either safe or not. We will NOT KNOW how good these gates will be in preventing water from flooding subway tunnels ... there are other entrances to subway tunnels, such as grates up on the roads above ... so that ain't gonna work ... we don't know if there are people who are left down there ...
...and knowing NY POLITICIANS: THEY WON'T CARE ABOUT ANY MOLE PEOPLE!!! Their attitude will be: get to a shelter (a lot of shelters are dangerous, people get killed when they stay in some of them) ... and though this may prevent some track and equipment damage in certain places, it's HARDLY A SOLUTION ... and could end up dangerous...I can just see some people getting caught in some out of the way place in some station and getting caught underground. You'd have to understand and experience NYers to understand this!
Another brilliant idea from the local idiots!!!
