HOUSTON -- An fire on a oil rig owned by a Houston-based energy company has left two workers dead and two more missing earling Friday morning off the coast of Louisiana, the U.S. Coast Guard in New Orleans confirmed.

Four other injured workers were air-lifted to a hospital in Jefferson Parish, La., Kirk Trascher, a spokesman from Black Elk Energy in Houston, said . There was no report on if any oil spilled into the Gulf.

Jefferson Parish Councilman Chris Roberts says the platform in question is a shallow water platform located in West Delta Block 32 in the Gulf of Mexico.

A spokesman says the Coast Guard just activated a "command center" to investigate the incident.

There is not much information available yet as to the location or size of the platform.

The Coast Guard is expected to release additional details later this morning.

URL: Google map of Assumption Parrish, La, sinkhole area

about 80+- miles SE of the Louisiana sinkhole in Assumption parrish, La. which is just north of the Point Au Chennes Wildlife refuge on the map at the link. My sense of it is there could be a connection?

I don't think there is a connection.

looks like it's not connected but still, I get creeped out with all the drilling there. 835 wells this company alone has there. Playing with fire, literally.
