Since Ryan wants the 'Sandy' discussion here I'm responding to a
post you had over there.

The science of a storm surge is pretty simple.

The extremely low pressure allows water to move in places where it
normally can't go.

I believe you don't even need much wind. Now as to what caused the
record low pressure reading for a category one I don't know. And I
still believe Sandy was a tropical storm when it hit land.

As you might guess I'm not going to get into the 'planned ' hurricane
argument either way.

However many people have underestimated a storm surge thinking
they are far enough inland because they don't get the science of it.

Water seeks its level.

I saw that posted over at Earthwaves.

That's why I posted here. Ryan wants all 'Sandy' discussion here.

As I said before the surge is caused by the extremely low pressure.

The water would move inland even with virtually no wind with
pressure that low.

As to what caused the anomalous low pressure reading for a
category 1 hurricane , I have no idea.

Concerning the subways it appears they are way behind state of the
art protection. The question is why didn't they have these things in
place( see the link ) and why didn't the largest city in the U. S. have
at least 20 generators like the private ones that were for the
Marathon.

I also have no idea what's really happening on the ground.

My question is what will New York do when an earthquake hits.

Only a matter of time.
