I don't know where to begin:
How ABOUT ALI VELSCHI from CNN!!! POOR GUY!!! But ... all I could think was : SNL skit, attn: Jason Sudeikis! Sick but true! That man was out in Atlantic City in that same freaking crossroad for how many freaking hours???? I'd sue CNN even if I worked for them!
Well, all I can tell you is that from Monday afternoon to Thursday morning, I felt this oppressive feeling in NYC of 'this is a city under siege.'
Many things happened that I WOULD NOT HAVE THOUGHT OF ...
First comes the bad weather! So you're stuck cs of all the wind, rain, etc.
Then, comes the damage and the feeling of helplessness that you are seeing everything destroyed and now how long are the authorities going to take to come and help you?
Then, comes the authorities updates...Bloomie signed some Executive Orders this week which were published in the NY Daily News and NY Post (for example, today's Daily News pg 24 has EO # 166 which amends the usual Emergency Evacuation and Re-Occupation and Transportation orders for the City of New York) ... Things like that I didn't know about. So the authorities can AMEND ANY LAW AT THE LAST MINUTE FOR ANY DURATION OF TIME and all of a sudden, you can't go here or go there or use this train or bus or whatever OR EVEN GO BACK TO YOUR AREA back to your house cs they may do like Long Beach and put a curfew and a non-reoccupation of the area. Never would've thought about that one!
Long Island is still without power in many areas. My friend's area just got electricity this afternoon. Thank God they had wood and have been warming the house with the fireplace, cs nothing happened to their house which is in the middle of Long Island. Restaurants and bakeries are still not open here. And the vibe in the air, is almost dark like the clouds that are already over this area again and which I assume come from the next storm.
The trains were running in Manhattan again. At Grand Central as you come up from the train platforms, the police is right there and 'guides' you to the nearest exit and there were buses out on 42nd Street which would take some of the passengers to Brooklyn. The tension in the passengers was palpable in the air. As we got closer to Manhattan from where we were coming way uptown ... woah, you could feel the current of nervousness to which I'm very sensitive.
In Manhattan, in midtown, Saks was open ... I feel good walking thru Saks or some 5th Avenue store ... so I went there. The main part of Grand Central was open and the Grand Central Market was pretty much food stocked except for mollusks, like clams or oysters...which is a good sign!
Bank lines galore, people getting money. Many restaurants open. Sephora's open, Starbucks were all packed. Rockefeller Center was fine, the rink was iced and had ice skaters there, Post Office in 34th Street was open and running. The magazines in the stores are still mostly from last week.
No sign in midtown that any water had been there or even affected any of this area.
NOW FOR THE BAD STUFF :
DOWNTONW IS STILL A NIGHTMARE!!!
My building downtown was SEVERELY FLOODED as were all the places there. One of my agencies that has an office down in Bowling Green which is where the South Street Station is located which is THE LAST subway station in Manhattan and comes out by the Staten Island Ferry Terminal ... That terminal was covered over the rood with water!!! That tells me the water had to be INSANELY HIGH and even the Wall Street Bull took a serious bath this time around!
The thing is, in Jan/Feb 2011 I did a temp assignment for a bank on the East side of that area by Water Street and sometimes I would walk back west and up just to enjoy the area and get to know it more cs I'd never worked there. Then after that assignment i got another one and had to go for a drug test there (which is mandatory to get a job in finance) and I remember walking on Wall Street and passing in front of the NYSE and then up by the statue of George Washington that stands there and FEELING LIKE I was seeing that area for the last time. At that time, I felt that this whole area would be covered with water or destroyed somehow!
And now this happened ... which brings me to my 3 dreams this past Summer ... WHICH IS FREAKING ME A BIT ... not too much but a bit ...
SEE IT THIS WAY:
Most of downtown, including the WTC area used to be estuary which became landfilled. Then they built the WTC towers and now they're building these new WTC towers (nothing happened to the crane they left on top of 1 WTC which is almost getting to be finished) ... THAT WHOLE AREA HAS BEEN SOAKED FOR THIS WHOLE WEEK WITH UNBELIEVABLE FLOODING FROM POLLUTED SALT WATER!!! AND MY QUESTION IS: HOW SAFE ARE THE FOUNDATIONS OF THESE BUILDINGS!????
The City of NY Building Engineers have to go into EACH BUILDING AND VIEW EVERYTHING BEFORE THEY WILL ALLOW RE-OCCUPATION of any of those buildings!
WANNA KNOW MY TAKE ON THIS?
Remember my dreams of "WTC and Downtown Manhattan areas as a war zone" this past Summer?
I believe some of those buildings are going to sink and collapse and IT'S GOING TO BE EPIC DESTRUCTION DOWN THERE OR UNIMAGINABLE PROPORTIONS!!!
I am truly afraid of going back to work in that building and I'm waiting not working next week and not sure about the week after either ... But I'm trying to get my agency to give me another assignment in the meanwhile cs I NO LONGER WANT TO BE IN THE WTC AREA!!!! IT IS UNSAFE, I BELIEVE!!!
The traffic coming into mid-town IN UNIMAGINABLE! With slow moving traffic, with at least 3 passengers ... these over head highways and WORST these old bridges ARE NOT GOING TO HOLD UP WELL! There is too much traffic and too many cars/trucks/buses coming in ... something bad is going to happen at some point!
GAS!!! OH BOY!!! Some guy cut in front of a line of cars at a Queens station, started a fight and pulled out a gun on another guy in line ... The police took him in, and for this he may end up getting 15 years in jail! SERIOUS STUFF!!!
Most gas stations around, NO GAS WHATSOEVER!!!
Ports in NY finally got the approval to open today and get their loads, Apparently, may ships offshore trying to deliver goods, gasoline etc.
One supermarket in Chelsea was EMPTY! NOTHING, NADA BABY!!! They're distributing food today and there are people charging their laptops at Kinko's and anywhere they can!
~ * ~ * ~ * ~
ALL I SAY IS THIS: THIS IS NOT OVER! THIS STORM WAS NOT THE ONE YET!
BEST CHANNEL FOR WEATHER PREDICTION: HLN NEWS! That guy was on the ball with everything with this storm and I'm listening to him with the one that is already on the way up!
THINK OF THIS: DESTRUCTION AT HIGH LEVEL, PEOPLE WHO ARE DESPERATE (including many who have no money and no access to food, not to talk about the elderly and the sick! OY!), MANY STORES RAN OUT OF FOOD, NO GAS, NO DELIVERIES, NO ELECTRICITY, DROPPING TEMPERATURES (IT IS COLD HERE RIGHT NOW!) ... AND ANOTHER STORM ON THE WAY TO GET HERE BY ELECTION DAY!!!
HELLO GUYS?!!! WHAT DO YOU THINK COULD HAPPEN IN THIS WHOLE AREA?!!! CAN YOU FEEL THE SENSE OF BEING UNDER SIEGE AND WITH NO WAY OUT?!!
I learned MANY LESSONS in this storm some of which I had been warning people. Many people I warned didn't even e-mail me or anything and some I know now see that EVERYTHING I HAD WARNED THEM ABOUT FOR YEARS WAS PRESENT THIS WEEK! I just didn't know how INTENSE IT IS TO LIVE THRU IT! And I didn't even really live thru it cs I was protected!
That woman who lost her two toddler sons in Staten Island, that woman was running away as the storm was getting more intense, and HER CAR STALLED, she was on the cell calling her husband, the waters were coming in already and she picked up her 2 sons and started knocking on people's doors ... NO ONE WOULD TAKE HER IN!!! She stood outside with here two toddler sons in that wind until the waters got so high that the current snatched her sons from her...I guess she didn't get into any of those doors cs her skin was dark and this was Staten Island and I guess those home owners were too prejudiced to help this woman!
HOW WOULD YOU FARE IN THAT SITUATION!!!
I'm going to post more on Dreams ....
BUT ALL I CAN SAY IS : GOD PROTECTED ME AND MY FRIENDS AND MY OWN!!! I TELL YOU PRAY!!!! GOD WILL SHOW US WHERE TO GO WHAT TO DO AND WE'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS!!!
THANKS FOR READING AND MUCH LOVE TO ALL!

Burnedmyrrh.... you are obviously what I would call a "navigator. These are the ones who do the same kind of thing the scouts used to do a long time ago, they go "ahead" and "see" what is about to be encountered and come back and tell the rest of the travelers what the get ready for.
I take what you say seriously because I think you have proven that you can see. Stay safe and keep on navigating.

Boy, you have really been through the wringer. Thank you so much for keeping in touch and for letting us know what is happening and how you are doing. Many here have been worrying about you and others in the path of the storm. We know we don't see very much of the truth of what's happening on TV. People like you are the only way to get the truth out.
God bless you and keep you safe.

Dear Myrrh,
Thanks for the update. I am so sorry you are going through this. Like the Psalmist said, "Yeah, though I walk through the valley of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me." Remember, you are walking through it. THROUGH IT. This will have an end. And you are doing much by telling your story. This is a good thing you do. I've never been through a hurricane, but I have seen the devastation of some F-5 tornadoes, I've survived a range fire that took out 57 homes (ours among them) and 11,000 acres. Boy, my heart and prayers go out to those in Breezy. And we had a bombing in our city, too. We had martial law for two or three weeks in the hot zone especially. I did volunteer work and you had to show your permission slip for being there, your FBI clearance and photo ID and show it to guards at every intersection and once you got to your assigned area to volunteer, you could not leave unescorted. I know all this is hard and I feel for you all who have much still to endure. Years ago, on the Syzzler site I had a mantra, "Move away from the edges." I know beach scenes are lovely but compared to the ocean, you lose. It's way bigger. So give her some respect, ie rooom to do her ocean thing. And it is only gonna get worse. Mother Nature will win every time. Please consider my words. Blessings and comfort and protection and prayers for the city I love so much, NY, NY. >^..^<

Well, I didn't go through the F-5s but my friends south and east of me did. I've only been through a few tornadoes but they were little ones. Lost a tree to one a couple of yrs ago. Our weather warning system here is so good, you have plenty of time to get in the closet, or tub, or cellar, or if really bad, get to the community shelter (usually a church basement) or mall halways. The good part about them is it's usually a few minutes of terror as opposed to hours and hours of terror in a hurricane. I much prefer the wham bam weather upheavals. The interesting thing is I have a theory (It's MINE, lookers-on) that the reason Oklahoma has more patent holders, published authors and probably artists per capita than other state is because of our crazy changeable weather. So we have to continually think of "plan B." And if it tears down or burns down, as long as you have to rebuild it, might as well rebuild it BETTER. And a wise man said that before any great idea awakening, chaos happens. Look forward to this awakening. >^..^<
