The weather was wet at Fuku this last week so there is overwhelming radiation drippage on the cams. Possibly the camera covers will have to be replaced at some point but there appears to be several small explosions coming from the common fuel pool to the left of the cam.
What's going on? Who knows. All we heard about yesterday is that an "H-beam" slid into the sfp at reactor 3. If you scroll through Nuckelchen's videos, you'll see that plummage is great at Daiichi in the last week. This is more a heads up to stay out of the rain, if you are inclined to dance in the rain- :) Also you can check radiationnetwork.com to see if any monitors are zinging off. So far they're a little elevated if you watch the changes but not crazy yet. Whoever is getting the wad coming from R3 and the common pool release, I pray they will be safe!

This whole thing angers me so much, it's hard to describe. I heard a national security type on CNN talk about getting countries to stop using coal and into 'safe' energy (like nuclear) -- sigh, the delusions just don't stop. I will never look at a piece of salmon and a big huge salad with tuna the same, ever again- :( All the animals and people who died with the help of radiation (50% of them were before 1 yr. of age, with all states having an increase in excess deaths compared to 2010) are just part of the 'collateral' damage with 'safe' nuclear energy. The combo of chemicals and radiation almost guarantees to my mind that we will cause an extinction event on the planet. The next 10-20 years are not going to be pretty but it's hard to know exactly how the continuing saga will play out. Personally, I don't think these reactors at Fuku are going to last until the end of next year, let alone the next six months but I pray that a miracle occurs so we don't get max'd out on radiation and it's decay products, like strontium and lead. Clif High said that when/if R4 toppled over, he has 'contingency' plans because he doesn't expect to live longer than five years in the PNW--wow!

Here are some links and discussion of the webcams:

This shows the Fuku site from 7 miles away. Very sad since Hope Ranch wants to save their cows. (On another ranch north at Namie, despite all efforts, are starting to see depigmented, white spots on the hides of their cows.)-

If you want to keep track of Fukushima ... check out Rense.com They do a brilliant job if keeping up on the radiation situ.

We've got slightly raised beta rads but who knows on alphas. There was more radiation yesterday so we'll see tomorrow. It moves with the wind so you can watch the figures change all day, along with the jet stream. The northern U.S. border is getting a lot I fear. Also, you never know on how people are using their geiger counters. To me monitoring air from one station is like sticking a catcher's mitt in the air, and saying, look ma, I caught 2 particles of Cesium! Chernobyl proved radiation deposits more like leopard spots.

I've got both pine and junipers in the yard, both I'm allergic to but now more so, in that they easily absorb more radiation than other plants so pollen will introduce more 'fun' around the house. I'm wearing a mask when I go out to water because I hate the sinus stuff! I sure wish we had an EPA testing soil and water and food and produce but never mind. Wishful thinking never got me anywhere- :)
