There have been a few fires in these parts this summer but this one looks like the worst so far. I can tell before the news hits when our air becomes murky and the mountains look like they are shrouded in ghostly gauze.

I'm in Spokane, about 180 miles east, and some of the smoke is drifting this way.

There's a page on Facebook for people who can help the folks who had to evacuate: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/groups/KittitasCommunityConnect/

thanks, that is an interesting jumble of questions and information. shocking how the fire grew last night. 70 homes lost as of the last estimate, 31 square miles burned-- it was fairly calm today but now the wind has picked up. FF report 10% contained. Christine is in Ireland but Lt Gov signed disaster area but extra crews are busy with their own fires so this is still a type two with only in state help. rumor was they were getting Nat Guard in to help.
Lots of barns and livestock in the area. FF reported that they were just releasing them to the wild when they found penned or fenced animals.
