btw, that is what we do...our small business, fire hazard reduction around homes (and, in fact, working tail off all week with several jobs to finish before the 15th--so, you won't be hearing much from me for a bit).

Twin Fire a reminder of importance of hazard reduction, safety

The Kern County Fire Dept. is reminding area residents to continue with hazard reduction (brush clearance) projects as the June 15 deadline approaches and also to observe safe practices.

In particular, the KCFD advises property owners to mow before 10 a.m. or earlier if possible and not to mow when it is windy or excessively dry as metal blades striking a rock can start a fire.

According to a news release from the KCFD, the fire in the Caliente area on Monday, June 11, was caused accidentally by an individual mowing dry grass.
That fire, called the "Twin Fire," was reported just before 2:15 p.m. on June 11.

More than 155-five firefighters responded to the incident, including firefighters from the Bureau of Land Management, Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service.

Upon arrival, fire crews were faced with approximately one to two acres of light grass and brush burning at a moderate rate of spread. A wind shift caused the fire to spot over a nearby road and it grew quickly in size while threatening 12 nearby structures. Three aircraft, two helicopters, two bulldozers, twelve engines, and six hand crews helped fight the blaze. The fire was estimated to have burned 137 acres.

According to the fire department, hazard reduction efforts by property owners in the area paid off tremendously as the fire burned up to and around several structures. No structures were reported to have been damaged by the fire.

Damages were limited to the vegetation involved and there were no reported injuries. Full containment is expected by noon Tuesday, June 12.

Oh yeah, I'm safe. It was between Isabella and Tehachapi, but not affecting either, I believe. This fire should be being mopped up now.
Thanks :)
