Yes...prayers, blessings and gratitude that the firefighters will save these incredible trees. I was up there just last summer, it's magical. I am sure there are Gnomes in those woods. Someday, they shall show themselves to me!

Sounds like they are getting a handle on it. The following update is from this morning:

Date: June 6, 2012 Time: 7:00 AM

Acres Burned: 1,800
Structures Threatened: 25
Containment: 55%
Structures Destroyed: 0
Injuries: 0
Total personnel assigned to the Fire: 979

Summary Overnight the fire had little activity and held within the current fire perimeter. Today fire crews will continue to construct fire line on eastern side of the fire and will patrol and hold fire line that has been constructed over the past few days on other parts of the fire. Crews will also start assessing the fire perimeter for the needs on fire line suppression repair. Some fire resources will start being release from this incident to help support other fires across the nation.

Fire Line Suppression: Repair Fire line suppression repair is to repair or improve fire damaged lands unlikely to recover on their own. The extent of repair will vary depending upon intended use after the fire. For example, fire crews will pull berms back onto the trail and return the line to original grade to prevent concentrations of water flow. Crews will construct waterbars at or below the slope break. After the fire is cold, slash and debris can be scattered along the length of the fire line.

SEQUOIA NATIONAL FOREST – The George Fire, located in the Giant Sequoia National Monument, has grown to over 1000 acres after it spotted across the Lloyd Meadow Road yesterday and burned up the hill towards Castle Rock. The South Central Sierra Incident Management Team will take over management of the George Fire this evening. Over 250 fire personnel are on scene including hand crews, engines, water tenders, helicopters, air tankers, and overhead personnel with more resources arriving tonight and tomorrow.

sounds like the weather has enabled them to get a handle on that fire. Thank God! Inciweb update from aa few hours ago. Sounds like little chance of spreading and mop up can begin.
Thanks Redhart, I came here to see about Colorado fires - had no idea this one was burning!

oh my gawd Red!!! Huge prayers for the forest ... did not know ... this is horrendous!

Home this week. Car in emissions shop, failed smog, fuel leak, bla bla. Seems so minor compared to this tragedy.
