Why don't people take their chances with a house that could resist disasters?

The houses built could easily have been Monolithic Domes, I'm not talking about poor people who can't afford a new house and must have a trailer.

At least if not a Monolithic, then something better than what appears to be a standard McMansion.

Oh well.

Are these the ones made with foam and covered with rubber sheeting? If so, they are super cool, very rugged, and not that hard 'to do'!

My dad looked into all the details but couldn't find land in Cali for a reasonable price (parents kind of stuck on CA living). Thumbs up if you've got a piece of land to put one of these on. I keep telling my rich friends, one or two, to buy land somewhere safe and expect all your friends to visit one of these days- :D

Monolithic Dome as done by the Monolithic people, is a balloon, sprayed the inside with foam, then they attach rebar to the foam and spray the inside with a concrete mix, making an insulated, strong structure able to withstand earthquake, fire, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc.

But I remember photos in Hawaii of regular wooden domes standing alone in a neighborhood of stick houses after a hurricane (Iniki?) blew through with 200 mph winds.

There are other options to McMansions.

It is nice, though, that the dryer re gions have an
option of fireproof, and that it drops the insurance
costs!

These homes are cool.
