that there is a "tear" in Ennis, Alaska ... they are
into day five of night and night and no sunlight and the
dead are beginning to walk the earth and "she woke up"
is what one man says to another at the Tsalal station
where they are supposedly collecting ice cores but all
have a spiral tatoo on their forehead ... the spiral
just like Rust Kohl saw in the maze just before the
maniac struck him with his weapon ... emphasis on the
effects of time and entropy and tears in the space-time
continuum

the spiral is the motif in the first edition and in the
fourth edition but it always seems to lurk in every
segment ... it seems to be a mysterious fixation of evil
intent that is in our DNA that we must overcome in order
to go to the next level ... before time does come to an
end as the ultimate "disaster"
