I was up watching TV as severe weather was coming to my area being a NWS spotter.
the weather channel and Fox weather both were covering it.
fortunately it stayed South of me.
there were over 1000 lightening strikes in 15 minutes and one large wedge
tornado on the ground. A wedge can be 1/4 mile wide to over a mile.
Fox had a computer that showed a debris field 1.4 miles wide in the air. how high up
I do not know it could have been a mile or more in height. the tornado may have
been on the ground near a hour or more or the same storm generated more tornadoes
as it moved on. last night near the town of Silver they showed a possible
second tornado on the ground just 15 miles SW of the big one, following it.
it is after 4 AM where I am now and so far 20 deaths was the number I heard.
I am sure when the sun comes up and sky clears they will possibly find much more.

spring and fall time the tornado alley shifts tot the Southern tornado alley.
this storm hot both tornado alleys and everything in between.
night time tornadoes scare the hell out of me. not to mention as a past chaser
much of the area has trees and and distance viewing are not available, you could
easily get caught in it, especially at night.
Just pray most had a shelter and are found safe.

oh ya it was determined to be a F4. brick homes wiped off their slab foundations.
I guess it is a F4 when the foundation is gone.
F4 was just for where it hit in Louisiana.
wonder what it was in Mississippi?

I am fine, just lost a big limb on one tree. I believe the same storm hit South of me
about 60 miles away. the weather radio went off bout 12:15 when it went into that area
but I felt safe to go to sleep, just for 4 hours though.

I hear more lightening strikes tonight. sounds like near Huntsville AL 70 miles away.
it is almost a pain after a near lightening strike one night out chasing. believe I got hit with
a leader bolt. now I can hear lightening over 100 miles away.
I remember a Shenandoah National park ranger who was hit 7 times could also hear
lightening hundreds of miles away.
after the devastation, it is hard to watch tv.

Looks like most of Rolling Fork was destroyed, so I
went to look up some history on it. fwiw.
Why You Should Visit Rolling Fork, MS
by Kelsey Ogletree
August 9, 2020

Home to a rich musical history, President Teddy
Roosevelt’s famous hunt and flourishing agriculture,
Rolling Fork is the place to visit this fall.

Farm land, trains, festival about the Teddy BEar, Jazz
musicians. Indian mounds, which were built by Native
Americans who lived in the area from A.D. 900 to A.D.
1500,

TV news says the tornado was on ground for 100+ miles.
it started in Louisiana, entirely
through Mississippi, through Alabama and may have even been on ground through
Southern Tennessee. I did have my weather radio go off after midnight
warning those in the TN counties of the possibility of it still being a tornado.
day time we will find out more on this.
14 dead just in Mississippi alone.

Thanks eaamon! Glad you are okay. I’m in eastern Tennessee now from
Arizona, previously California,(6th generation). This is scary , I think I am
less afraid of earthquakes! I have a niece in Hendersonville outside of
Nashville and she is always on watch. Take care and stay safe and well.
Again thank you for this information.

sher, I lived in San Jose for years. suffered PTSD from every quake after the Loma Prieta quake.
it was funny living there went for over 10 years before seeing a thunder storm hit there.
very sensitive for quakes even small ones here.
