If the National parks were managed better ( like it used to ) we wouldn’t
be in another awful fire season! Thank you ‘tree huggers’.

Here's a great info site I followed during the Dixie Fire.

If you go to the site, you can click on " About", and read about Zeke Lunder
and read his history with mapping wildfires.

He grew up in Westwood, east of us here, and Val know's his Parents.

Anyway another good site to bookmark in favorites during fire season.

Best to all of you,
Jeff

I've been out there as late as mid October, -the days are much shorter at that time of the year...

I feel for the ones who lost everything and of course there were lives lost much like during this recent flooding in Kentucky, -it happens more frequently

nowadays, -we all have to take better care of Mama Earth...

oh, I had a man on site up there on that one. My son is
in the national guard and that's the fire he was put
on. Nasty fire...and so is McKinney.

Prayers going out for all in harms way, and thanks for
the extra resource. When one of these starts anywhere
near friends or family (and I have them throughout the
state), I'm all over them.

With the lightning storms down here this week, it's a
bit nervewracking. More probably coming starting
thursday here.

We seem to have a disintegrating hurricane off the
coast to the southwest, "Frank". While our alaskan
current will kill it as a hurricane/TS, the moisture
and energy will keep getting spiraled into
California...most likely, elevating t-storms all week.
You know how that goes.

unfortunately--will post a new article that two more
dead have been found in the McKinney fire :(

hey Jeff, -for eons I've gone camping , in the Klamath wilderness, -it takes an 8 hour drive from SF to get there , the final destination...

much like driving from Helsinki to Lapland...

I know the affected areas so well, some small places along the Klamath River seem to be totally gone, -it's sad beyond sad...

I tried to google how the places I know so well fared/are faring...

Two more people found dead in McKinney Fire, raising
death toll to 4, sheriff’s office says
KCRA
Updated: 10:33 AM PDT Aug 2, 202

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. —
Two more people were found dead in the McKinney Fire
perimeter, bringing the death toll to four for the fire
burning in Siskiyou County, according to the sheriff’s
office.

Officials had said two people were found Sunday inside
a vehicle in a residential driveway along Doggett Creek
Road and Highway 96.

Then on Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said two more
people were located in separate homes along State Route
96.

There are no unaccounted-for people, officials said.

No information was released about the people killed
pending identification and notification of next of kin.

The McKinney Fire has forced several evacuations in the
area, and has burned at least 55,493 acres as of
Tuesday morning, according to the United States Forest
Service.

Evacuations in the McKinney Fire
An evacuation order means there’s an immediate threat
to livelihood and evacuation is mandatory.

An evacuation warning means fire behavior could
threaten nearby homes and businesses. Although no one
is required to leave during an evacuation warning, it
is still highly encouraged.

A portion of Highway 96 remains closed due to the
blaze.

social media pages for the latest on evacuations

Authorities are warning those who had to evacuate about
the loss of communication and the "displacement of
persons from their homes." They say to first try all
phone numbers, emails and social media accounts to
contact a person. Then you can contact the American Red
Cross concerning a missing friend or relative that may
be in an evacuation shelter by calling 1-800-RED CROSS
(1-800-733-2767).

After trying all known contacts and shelters, if the
person is still unaccounted for as the result of the
McKinney Fire and you believe they are missing, people
can contact the Siskiyou County Emergency Operations
Center Unaccounted Persons line at: 530-842-8741. This
line is staffed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Authorities ask that you do not call 911 for non-
emergency information as dispatchers are busy routing
emergency traffic.

Battling the fire
Firefighting crews on the ground were trying to prevent
the blaze from moving toward the town of Yreka,
population about 7,500, about four miles away as of
Sunday.

A second, smaller fire in the region that was sparked
by dry lightning Saturday threatened the tiny
California community of Seiad. Overall, officials said
about 400 structures were threatened by the two fires.

Authorities have not confirmed the extent of the
damages far in the areas that have burned, saying
assessments would begin when it was safe to go inside
them.

A third fire, which was on the southwest end of the
McKinney blaze, prompted evacuation orders for around
500 homes Sunday, said Courtney Kreider, a spokesperson
with the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office.

The office said crews had been on the scene of the fire
since late Saturday but by the following morning it
“became active and escaped its containment line.” The
childhood home of one sheriff's deputy burned on
Friday, Kreider said,

Thunderstorms that brought barrages of lightning and
threatened to spark new fires in dry fuel beds in
Northern California were expected to move out of the
area starting Monday, forecasters said.

rubble

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. —
A little bit of good news and a lot of luck coming out
of a destructive wildfire burning near the California-
Oregon border as a photojournalist saved a puppy
wandering around the ruins of the McKinney Fire.

Jonathan Rivas said he arrived at the community of
Klamath River early Saturday morning, just hours after
the wildfire broke out where he said there was a lot of
damage, with trees and homes burned.

Rivas said he was finishing filming one neighborhood
when he heard yelping.

"I heard a yelp in the distance, but I didn't really
know what it was, I thought it was an injured deer or
one of the wildlife that's there," the AIO Filmz
photojournalist said. "All of a sudden, this little
puppy comes and runs up to me. I was super shocked to
see that come from the rubble there."

The puppy was clearly excited to see Rivas in the
video.

The puppy allowed Rivas to pick him up and put him in
the back of his car.

"He was very excited, he was wagging his tail, I am
talking to him like I'm talking to my dog, I picked him
up, put him in the trunk of my car," Rivas said.

taking video of damage near Klamath River.
He gave him some water before driving to Yreka and
dropping him off at a shelter.

Rivas posted the video on social media, where he found
the puppy's family. The puppy has been reunited with
its family.

"Reuniting it with their family and after hearing their
story, it makes me feel good, I am just happy, I was at
the right place at the right time," Rivas said.
