Jeff, if you can please update when you do have to evacuate. Looks like the whole lake is in one phase or another of evac.

Yes, Lake Almanor, my first thought! Hope they
get out safely...and he 'checks in' soon!

Hi Guy’s & Gal’s,

We're okay, the last three or four days have been a bit of a pucker factor,
but not clinching yet.

We’ve been in the "Evacuation Warning" zone for the past few days, and still
are for now.

Both cars are packed with necessities, pictures, and stuff that can’t be
replaced. So we will hit the road when we get the evacuation order.

Luckily we are across the lake, and about as far away from the fire anyone
could be at this time.

The saving grace is the wind is calm, and growing slow but in may
directions, and is now the largest fire in California this year.

If we do have to evacuate, I’ll let you know when we have internet service
where ever we end up. We don’t have smart phones, so can’t send a
message that way.

Anyway, thanks for all your good thoughts, wishes and prayer,

Jeff & Val

hi Jeff, I was just going to post an article about the Dixie fire threatening Lake Almanor. It's from redding.com news so it's recent news. I noticed that a lot of roads are closed. Good to know you and Val are ready to go if and when that's necessary. I sure hope not. Breaks my heart to see this beautiful country being torched! There's over 4000 firefighters fighting this monster and the weather is going to turn very hot in a few days.

My 2 granddaughters, their friends who have stayed at Lake Almanor for years decided to not visit this year. I'm so relieved!

Surrounding you with big Angels of safety and protection. Hugs, Sheila

Hi sheila,

Sunday morning and we are still at home safe. All packed and ready to go if
need be. Our seasonal neighbors have invited us to stay with them, at their
permanent home in Elk, looking over the beautiful Pacific Ocean, in their
studio apartment rental. We've stayed there before, and it is beautiful
indeed.

If we do get a mandatory evacuation, we will all leave together. If that
happens, my brother and sister in law and us, will head out on the 36 all the
way down to Red bluff. The 32 is closed from the 36 to Butte Meadows
turnoff. But we will head down to Chico from Red Bluff, to drop off my truck
and my bro's truck and boat, that are filled with irreplaceable memorabilia
(pictures), at one of his friends almond grove ranch house in Durham.

Then we will head to Elk and meet up with my neighbors, and bro will either
stay there, our head up to sis in-law family in Medford, who extended the
invitation to them, or both.

The firefighters have cut large lines with bulldozers from Hwy 36 all the way
down the west shore past Canyon Dam, and have set backfires all along
Hwy 89. If that holds, we will most likely be ok.

The dixie and fly fires have merged last night. And I'm deeply saddened with
seeing that the fire ran right over my old 21 acre property on Spanish creek,
called Paddle Paw Ranch, a mile east of the Greenville Wye towards Quincy.
I'll link a website to check it out. Just click the big picture.

I'll let you go for now, as this is getting long. Will try keeping you undated as
necessary.

Best always,
Jeff & Val

Thanks Redhart,

Things look very positive, compared to a week ago. Aggressive back fires
across all active lines are being done.

Much more info on Personal board, with lots of links. I know your no
stranger to fire information resources.

Our next challenge will be the unstable air mass the next couple days. Rain
YES, lightening and wind, NO. I'm sure there will be a mix of all of the above.

Thanks for the prayers and kind thoughts,
Best to you always,
Jeff

Yes, down south here we're under a flood watch, of all
things, due to a new push of t-storms heading up from
Arizona. The ground is so hard and dry, if we get too
much water all at once, it all runs off and floods. If
it doesn't rain enough, lightning will start new
fires.

Have the hatches battened.

Good to hear things have improved for you. You guys up
there are due a break. No. Calif has been under attack
by these fires for weeks now.

thanks so much for your update Jeff, I've been watching the fire closely for days now since so many in our family have been fans of the Feather river country, Lake Almanor and surrounds for years. I read all the messages at the link, lots of info on what's happening there from firefighters, retired and active. They seem to know the drill.

I haven't gone to your link yet but I will. Dang man, that's real sad to lose a property you loved so much.
These mega fires are all around heartbreaking!

I'd head to the coast since it's going to get way hotter inland in the next few days, still cool there so far.
Well if you don't have to evac, that would mean the fire has diminished some but wouldn't count on it, weather not looking good. I read about the Fry fire too. We all need rain so bad, here in Oregon too. I have to water our whole property daily, the trees are shedding leaves like it's already Fall!
Hugs and blessings, Sheila

Keep you chins up. Hoping and praying that your home stays safe.
Any fires anywhere are so brutal. And leave lasting scars.
We’ve been evacuated twice last year and by the Grace of God our
homes were saved. It got really close.
This year only once so far. Response was was very fast and the only
thing that kept it from reaching our area was a cinder block wall.
Started from a chain dragging on highway 20. One never really
knows in most cases how fires start. Worse yet when they will be
under control. Praying for RAIN- WET RAIN!

I can't imagine having to go through something
like that...my panic threshold is very low. Had
to evacuate an apartment once at 3 a.m. because
of a fire next door, requiring several hours
out on the street before being allowed back in.
That experience stayed with me for a long time!

You seem very calm under the critical nature of
that very real situation. Hope you and Val are
able to return to your unscathed home soon and
the landscape is not too badly charred around
your vista! Fingers crossed.

All The Best to You and Val...

P.S. You NEED a smartphone! OMG!
