My daughter is on standby evacuation notice.

We have a fast moving fire ripping through Bonnie Doon
and Big Basin state park area ...It's heading straight
for the San Lorenzo valley which is heavily populated.

The entire towns of Boulder Creek (and all
neighborhoods west and north) are being evacuated, as
well as Bonnie Doon and Brookdale.

Ben Lomond and Felton are on standby.

County twitter info on evacs: @sccounty

Please keep my daughter and all in harms way in your
prayers tonight.

oh my gosh Redhart, I was just looking at the list of fires in Ca. from Inciweb, couldn't believe what I was seeing! So many fires, has to be so difficult to get enough resources to fight them all.
Also, it's hard to keep up with this one because they keep calling it by different names since there appear to be several fires all in one complex.

This is such an incredibly beautiful area, breaks my heart to see it. Prayers for your daughter and her family and everybody in harm's way.

yes, I can only imagine dear one, I admit that I had a damned good cry over seeing my home state going up in flames today. Our local news weatherman just had satellite images of all the smoke from these many fires, I just about lost it on those images.

I'll get to personal to read there. ITMT, please keep posting any updates of you can.
Mega blessings to you and all in harm's way and of course prayers too.

Well, the news is not good for this fire...and before
I get into it, there's several other fires also
burning: SCU complex (Mt Hamilton--east of San Jose),
River fire (mts west of Salinas) There's a fire in the
Carmel valley that's large. Big sure is on fire
(caused by arsonist who is in custody), Vacaville and
napa areas on Fire..Travis AFB evacuated non
essentials and family..these are all massive fires, Pt
Reyes is on fire. We still have the Lake fire down
east of Palmdale choking us out here. Fire fighters
are tapped out..or, as one chief said, we asked for
more help but there's no one left at the stations.
Help is incoming from other states and national guards
at this point.

the Santa cruz mts fire (CZU august lightning
complex)..they can't get planes in there (even if they
had them, which they don't) because the smoke is too
think. they do have 7 helicopters they are using as
best they can, but it's dangerous for them as well.

The trees are too tall up there for retardant drops--
it doesn't penetrate down, only coats the top of the
trees.

Their focus is on evacuations and saving "people" at
this point. They don't have enough forces to do much
else. They are withdrawing back to hwy 9 and getting
people out and making their stand there with all the
small towns through that valley.

Boulder Creek downtown--still standing last I saw
Ben Lomond down town--still standing-=-fire is moving
down Alba Rd on the west side of town, east side okay
Brookdale..hwy 9 area still standing, but clear creek
is on fire on the west side...east side still okay
Felton--newly evacuated with fire rapidly coming down
west side down Felton/empire grade. Many witnesses saw
houses going up in flames on the west side of town
further from town center. Town center is still okay.

UCSC--evacuating.

Lompico and Zayante evacuating because those small
communities are one road out towns..they're prepping
everyone out before it becomes an issue.

Mt. Hermon/Scotts valley on standby..Calfire base is
ats Scotts Valley at this time.

They are starting to get concerned about western and
northern Santa cruz .

40,000 acres/0% containment. No improvement in weather
conditions in the next 48 hrs..then "maybe".

Fire extremely erratic and unpredictable and currently
attempting runs down the east flank of Ben Lomond
mountain and the empire ridge grade into the san
Lorenzo valley where the bulk of populus and towns
are.

Daughter and granddaughter safe in Santa Cruz with
family (and her chickens)..son in law stayed behind
with his business in Ben Lomond to continue to protect
from looters (there are none that I've heard of, but
he's worried about it). So far, his area is safe.
We're trying to talk him out of there. His elderly
father in boulder creek, also refusing to evacuate at
this time. Family is attempting to change their minds.

I'll try to update again later..obviously, I'm a bit
preoccupied today. I do so appreciate all the well
wishes for our family members and the communities in
danger.

The Calfire page for this CZUcomplex fire has been
down more than up, but they are posting information at
the twitter link above. There are links there to other
fires and all kinds of information.

"Fire approaching Hwy 9/Brookdale per CHP:

10:09 AM PER 15 FIRE REQ WE SHUT DOWN 9 IN BROOKDALE
AREA / FIRE GETTING CLOSE / ROAD CLOSURE SIGNS BEING
MOVED / RES GOING BACK TO HOMES AND ALMOST RUNNING OVER
FIRE PERSONEL "

CZU complex has grown to 50K acres, and read that nearly 65 thousand people are evacuated in this area!

Pretty complete list of all areas evacuated, etc.
Prayers continue and a few tears as well.

Some video before sunset as the Firefighters prepare
for a stand as fire approaches town.

I used to live in the house behind that gas station on
the corner. That is a the big siren and is VERY
loud..can be heard miles away. it's to call all
volunteer firefighters to action.

At the same time that was going on, reverse 911 were
going out again for anyone that hadn't evacuated yet.

The fire's made several attempts to run into town..so
far, it's been fought back.

Fire's also approached behind the Brookdale lodge on
Alta Via Dr. in Brookdale, and made runs down Glen
Arbor toward Ben Lomond.

Again, these guys have kept the fire on the west side
of hwy 9 (Movie call back, "You shall not pass!")

The fire chief said that normally, you would have
about 1,000 fire fighters for a 5,000 acre fire. This
one, as of tonight, is 57,000 acres.. 2% contained and
has 1,000 firefighters on it.

the "official" confirmed home destroy count is at 97
today, but that's not going to be even close to the
final count. There will be hundreds when they can
finally get in there. We're pretty sure my old house
on Creek drive went up (my first house I ever owned)
just north of town in a neighborhood called "Riverside
Grove".

At least all the family is now safely evacuated to
Santa Cruz. So far, my daughter's home and their
business is untouched.

The chief said tonight the winds are expected to rise
again...and they're making their stands on hwy 9. It
should tell the tale..if they make it through the
night, there's supposed to be cooler, foggier air with
less wind coming in tomorrow that should help them
turn the corner on this fire.

thanks for that info Redhart, so glad your family are are safe. On that twitter thread for "Boulder Creek" it showed a man wearing a kilt on the roof of the gas station you mentioned, looked like it was still standing and the town itself looks to be safe for now.
That's as of 4 hours ago. I was so very sad to see the Big Basin Redwood state park go up in flames. Looked to me like many of the younger trees crowned with the fire so they probably won't survive. The ancient trees will hopefully make it through but the campground, all buildings are torched.

I found some latest news as of this am on the link. Prayers continue for you all.

Well, BC is standing--wouldn't call it safe. Fire's
been making runs at the town all night..2 more homes
went up on Madrone..and they beat it back. North of BC
lost a lot of homes and it's jumped the highway north
and south of BC, but they did beat it back across.

Two houses went up in flames on Clearcreek rd just
behind the Brookdale Lodge...but the lodge is okay--it
attempted to jump the highway there, too..but beat it
back.

I heard on the scanner that the fire is currently as I
type on both sides of Felton-Emprire grade road on the
west side of town only .4 mi up. They were shutting it
down and reinforcing that spot.

Yeah, Kilt-man is a trip but these civilians need to
leave. You aren't going to put this out with a garden
hose, and he's got 5 engines parked all around his
station. Emotions run high, though..that human
instinct to protect territory (house/business/etc) is
strong.

There have been several rescues of homeowners who
stayed behind, each time one needs rescuing, they have
to pull forces off the line to do so and put their own
fighters at risk.

above is a link to the current "heat signature" map of
the fire. Bear in mind, it's always a couple hours
old..they update several times during the day.

..good news/bad news: expecting better weather at the
fire today and tonight. It should help them

bad new: another hurricane fell apart off baja and
they are expecting possible dry lightning and erratic
winds tomorrow.

thanks for that link, sure tells the tale and none of it good. News said 10 other states sent firefighters and Australia too. Good on the Aussies, our firefighters flew there in about February to help them with all the terrible bush fires they had back then.

Been watching that hurricane, what's left of it slowly making it's way to Ca. Praying it doesn't bring more lightning. There's flash flood warnings for the Santa Barbara, SLO areas for tonight through tomorrow too.
Best to you and thankful your son in law finally left too.

I'm seeing lightning activity south of here
(Tehachapi) and way out in the desert. Keeping an eye
on it for obvious reasons. Could use a little divine
intervention about now heh.

Daughter's family has gotten an AirB&B place in Santa
Cruz for the time being, complete with laundry and
working showers and a place to store valuables securly
that they evacuated.

Her brother in law went back to boulder creek to get
hte last of some important papers...when he got there,
the hillside just behind his house was on fire. They
grabbed their papers and hightailed it to town and
told the first firefighter they found. They put out a
dispatch and we just heard that they saved the house
(at least for now).

We're hearing reports of fire in Gold Gulch area of
Felton..and spot fire reports on Grove st. at the
south end of Boulder Creek. The winds of changed from
north blowing south, to west blowing east..and the
fire's making more runs toward hiway 9 and the towns
there.

These undermanned firefighters are working their tails
off, some without sleep for over 24 hrs.

That doesn't even show all the fires.

today, we're getting smacked with the smoke plume here
at home from the Lake Fire that's east of palmdale and
over 20 thousand acre. It's about 30-35 mi south of us,
we're safe from the fire, but the smoke..yuck..smells
like burning rubber and hickory. You don't spend time
outside without a mask. No one's complaining today about
wearing a mask.

You know..I think I'd have been happy just to skip 2020
so far.
