Wasn't there just a short time ago, and now it's blown
up into an inferno...This is around Lake Hughes in
California, just south of the Poppy preserve.

I know there's a few people on the board from the
desert areas around there, hopefully not close to
this. This is going to be very bad. I've rarely seen a
fire blow up so quickly. When I can see this fire cap
out above the 8,000 foot mountain the fire and my
house, from about 50 miles away--you know it's a bad
one. I thought it was a rogue t-storm at first.

Twitter feed to the fire and lastest info..and you can
find links from there if you need to.

It was 400 acres less than an hour ago and It's blown
up to at least 6,000 acres and moving fast.

Anyone in that area please listen to authorities and
if given the word to evacuate, do so..immediately. Do
not f*** around with this fire. Grab the kids, pets
and get in the car. If you live in that area and have
large animals, call for help now to load and evac--
don't wait for the order.

You can't walk outside without noticing. it's like a
volcano exploded to our south. You can see it from
Venice Beach and All over southern california.

It is now 10,000 acres and slowly moving in the
direction of Palmdale..sending embers and spot fires a
mile ahead of it to the east.

no..someone posted it from a little closer--maybe 5 mi
to my south on the other side of the mountain, but the
view from my house is pretty alarming already. The
photo captures the terrible awe of this plume in all
it's colors that I can see from here as well. Right
now, it dominates the whole southern sky.

I have an 8,000 foot mountain blocking my view in that
direction...and still, this plume is visible high
above it. I'm guessing the pyroclastic plume is
capping at least at 30,000 feet. It's now large enough
to create it's own weather...including lighting.

The fire has to be about 40ish miles south of me.

I know there's a few posters here from that general
area. Exactly how close they are, I am not sure. Just
want to make sure they are aware (Hard not to if you
walk outside, as you can see) and have some sort of
links to more information about where it is, direction
and speed it's moving and if they emergency links.

Good idea to reach out and share this way.

This may have been similar to one of your links... I found
another with updates and was amazed at the footage of this
Lake Fire so far.

The fire was pretty quiet and they had it at 12,500
acres and 15% containment this morning. Then the
weather changed...

We've had a major blow up of the fire again..the
#lakefire twitter feeds states that the fire's making
a run, apparently east. Fire fighters fleeing east to
regroup.

100 degrees on my front porch, and probably hotter
there.

The photo above is very accurate to what I'm seeing
above the 8'000 mountain to my south. If you see a
fire plume clear that mountain, you know it's bad.
That plume is probably 30-35K high from 30 -35 mi
south of us.

The link is to an alert fire watch cam that is focused
on the fire. The camera (quartz hill near Palmdale) is
looking WNW at the fire.

Quick update...this fire is still very active...we
thought it died down, but it blew up big last night:

"
L.A. County Fire Department
@LACoFDPIO
· 5h
**UPDATE** #LakeFire is currently at 21,115 acres with
38% containment and 1,983 personnel assigned. The
temperature will remain hot and dry today. Steep,
rugged, and inaccessible terrain continues to
challenge firefighters..."

the thing is also creating it's own weather with the
influx of moisture. The other day we had Lightning
(whihc started 2 small fires here 35 mi away) created
by the smoke plume...it mixed with the moisture and
did rain, then the wind blew and it snowed...ashes.
Smelled like a wet campfire.

Last night, when it blew back up on it's western
flank, it was so aggressively burning it sillouetted
The 8,000 foot mountain between our town and the fire
in an erie, red glow that sparked calls to 911--was
hard to believe the firelight was coming from 30 mi
away. It looked like the fire had to be right on the
back of the mountain.

Today--more smoke plumes, t-storms and moisture again
encroaching so am not sure how this will turn out.
This fire nearly doubled over night.
