if it took this long after Hurricane Michael, dang,
how long will it take to get Fema start helping those
left homeless after the Cali fires? I haven't seen or
heard anything about Fema putting in a hardcore effort
there...

From what I've read in passing, it seems that FEMA is
only giving out vouchers. IMO, that doesn't help when a
lot of poor folks up there have nowhere to go.:(

Although I did see that FEMA has given out stays at
hotels or some other places for 2 weeks or a month, as
the case might be, while people are figuring out what
to do next. Nonetheless - it's truly an awful situation
that is going to be with a lot of people up there for a
good while. They need all the help they can get, to get
back on their feet!

good news for those who lost their homes but why did they take over a month to get them there? Crikey!

I guess it might be the magnitude of the numbers needed, the
magnitude of the disaster...and then there's other ones close
together this year...not sure.

I was just reading the wiki article about this hurricane, the numbers are staggering, here's an excerpt and reading the rest is making my head, heart hurt!:

By October 28, at least 60 deaths had been attributed to the storm, including 45 in the United States and 15 in Central America. Hurricane Michael caused at least $14.58 billion (2018 USD) in damages, including $100 million in economic losses in Central America,[1] $6 billion in destroyed U.S. fighter jets at Tyndall Air Force Base,[2] and at least $3.3 billion in insurance claims in the U.S.[3][4] Losses to agriculture and timber alone exceeded $5.18 billion.[5][6] As a tropical depression, the storm caused extensive flooding in Central America in concert with a second disturbance over the eastern Pacific Ocean. In Cuba, the hurricane's winds left over 200,000 people without power as the storm passed to the island's west. Along the Florida panhandle, the cities of Mexico Beach and Panama City suffered the worst of Michael, with catastrophic damage reported due to the extreme winds and storm surge. Numerous homes were flattened and trees felled over a wide swath of the panhandle. A maximum wind gust of 129 mph (208 km/h) was measured at Tyndall Air Force Base near the point of landfall. As Michael tracked across the Southeastern United States, strong winds caused extensive power outages across the region.
