I spent probably a couple of hours over the weekend watching live overhead
coverage from ch. 5. Those DC10s swooping down low between the
mountains, pretty amazing. Such massive devastation ... people, homes and
all that wildlife - gone. My old high school, Taft is one of the evac centers.
So many memories hiking, roaming those mountains. Hope for radical
healing & regeneration...

we got a ringside seat to firefighting yesterday when
a 2 acre wild fire broke out about 3:30pm just on the
other side of the valley where I live, and grew to
about 20 acres by 3:45..winds driving it toward a
neighborhood of Stallion Springs (about 2 mi from my
home).

We have the same high winds going on here, and all FD
are on red alerts.

Within minutes, we had two helicopters and two tanker
planes dropping water and foscheck, engines streaming
in from everywhere (even as far north as Tuolomne
county). They had it mostly out by 5pm, and had a crew
stay over night to mop up embers.

Scary stuff. My front picture window directly faced
the view of the new fire. We did not want to be the
next Malibu or Paradise up here. You could hear
neighbors cheering every time a drop was made on that
fire (Stallion fire), stopping it from going right
into the community of Stallion Springs.

I have nothing but admiration for our California fire
departments and what they do.

Yikes, sounds terrifying. Stay safe. A little rain dancing wouldn't hurt.
