the air felt like there were hundreds of fireplaces going on outside, all the smoke from the latest nor cali fire carried over here...

it's beyond tragic, -I thought now that it's nov the major worries are over, -not so fast...
was this latest fire started by yet another person ??

it's all so tiresome, every year lately it seems these fires are taking place...the nature all over cali is so dry, no rain in sight...

these rapid moving fires are like a large quake that can occur any moment, -very important to have the emergency bag ready and the ones with pets, -their bag ready as well...

Absolutely tragic. But, all of this has caused
communities to raise their voices.

On our neighborhood message board residents are asking
for a town hall meeting to go over neighborhood
evacuation plans. Last time there was a fire, people
evacuated tried to use designated back fire roads only
to find them padlocked and chained!

Residents got bolt cutters, rammed them with cars, or
tried to turn around to find another route...back
toward the fire.

Apparently, our association has not yet fixed this
issue... And, after these fires, neighbors will now be
holding them accountable and demanding action now,
before people die here.

does your daughter still live in the Santa Cruz area ??
the air is still so smoky here...there's an eerie glow on the horizon...

just a few days ago I was marveling how beautiful it was, blue skies, nice temps, the visibility seemed to go on forever, these horrid fires plagued parts of Europe this past summer as well...

lots of casualties...
I was discussing it all with my brother in Finland this morning, they are following these cali fires as well...

he said that recently when there were massive wildfires in Russia the smoke was so thick it all carried over to Finland...

stores here in SF are running out of the masks, another thing to put on the " to buy list "
it's eerie seeing people walk around with masks covering their mouths and noses...

you often see it in areas of China when the pollution gets to be so bad...

I sure hope there would be rain on the horizon ??

Was checking the weather, but no rain in the forcast
(at least for us down here).

My daughter still lives with her family in the Santa
Cruz mountains, yes. We visited with her this summer--
still beautiful up there among the redwoods.

Yesterday, the skies were clear here with the strong
winds blowing from east to west. I didn't even realize
there was a big fire to our southwest--wind
blowing the smoke horizontal out over the ocean.

Today, it's all different. The east wind let up, and
the wind is coming out of the west now--calmer, better
for fire fighters, but sending the plume over us now
(cough, wheeze). Orange sun and a brown-grey blanket
across the sky.

They are trying to make the best of of the good wind
while they have it, because tomorrow it's supposed to
turn around again and rage from the east again.

Death toll rises to 23 in California's Camp Fire
By Nicole Chavez, Dakin Andone and Steve Almasy, CNN

Updated 10:43 PM ET, Sat November 10, 2018

CNN)The death toll in the Camp Fire in Northern
California has risen to 23 with the discovery Saturday
of 14 more sets of remains, Butte County Sheriff and
Coroner Kory Honea told reporters.

Honea said 10 of the victims were recovered from the
fire-ravaged town of Paradise. He said seven people
were found in homes, and three were outside. Of the
remaining four, two were in cars and two were in
houses in an area known as Concow.

Saturday brought a break in the fierce winds that have
whipped the three major wildfires in California that
have destroyed a record number of buildings and
displaced more than 300,000 people.

But officials know the gusts will be back Sunday and
most evacuation orders remain in place.

"Mother Nature has given us a short reprieve ... but
we know tomorrow Mother Nature's gonna turn her fan
back on and the winds are going to start blowing,"
Ventura County Fire Chief Mark Lorenzen told
reporters. He said he cautioned his firefighters and
the public not to be lulled by the better weather
Saturday. ... (more at link plus video)

I can confirm the winds have come back this morning, at
least here in Tehachapi (about 70mi ne of Woolsey fire).
I'd say they're whipping up around 40mph out of the east
(Santa Anas direction) so far (guestimate).

I was checking, there's still a lot of live flame down
there in the Malibu hills. This is likely to reignite it
all.

if there is any good news, it's that the wind will at
least push all this smoke back out to sea.

per twitter reports, the fire is currently encroaching
on Pepperdine University with students sheltering in the
Library. Fire is on campus grounds, but has not reached
buildings, to my understanding.

also, they did manage to save Pepperdine U. Lost a couple of out buildings but so far from what I've seen this am, the fire has really died way down. That from a live aerial from KPTV5. Winds come back tonight though. Lots of smoke lingering.

I understand - up here in the PNW we have had the
smoke from fires that have caused serious problems.

My prayers and heart go out to all those - 2-legged, 4
legged, finned, feathered - all those who are
affected.

it's amazing how far the ashes carry, last year during the fires up in the Wine Country it was the same thing...
ashes everywhere...

all this destruction makes you feel numb...lives lost, plenty of wild animals, pets etc lost...
