Southwest Airlines plane struck by truck at BWI
Airport in Maryland

WASHINGTON (WJLA) – A pickup truck hit a Southwest
Airlines plane coming into BWI Airport from Fort
Lauderdale, Fla. early Monday morning.
A passenger on the flight tells ABC 7 News there
were no injuries on the flight. The plane was
stopped at the runway when the incident occurred.
Southwest Airlines responded to a tweet to a
passenger on board before later releasing the
following statement:

"Southwest Flight 6263 with scheduled service from
Ft. Lauderdale to Baltimore was pulling into the
gate at Baltimore Washington International Airport
(BWI) when a ground vehicle came into contact with
the aircraft. There are no reported injuries of the
172 passengers."

Michael Simon wrote on his Twitter page, "So our
@SouthwestAir flight just got in an accident with a
pick up truck. Guess this makes me an airplane crash
survivor..."

The airline replied saying, "Glad to hear everyone
made it Safely to BWI, but we truly regret any
inconvenience tonight. We'll do our best to get you
going ASAP, Michael! -Rebekah"

Passengers were being assisted off the plane.

Southwest Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Dallas
After Losing Pressure

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A Southwest Airlines plane was
forced to make an emergency landing Saturday after
the cabin started losing pressure. The plane is now
undergoing a maintenance review.

Flight 861 was headed from Denver to Dallas Saturday
night, and there were more than 100 passengers on
board.

Passenger Glen Eichelberger said at around 9 p.m.,
the oxygen masks came down and passengers were told
to put them on because the cabin was losing
pressure. Passenger Josh Trimberger said the plane
was about 30 minutes outside of Dallas at that
point.

Southwest Airlines flight scare
“Luckily, we were in the DFW area where we have
Alliance, Love Field and DFW,” said Trimberger.

“I had no idea what was going on or what the outcome
was going to be,” said Eichelberger. “I reached over
and grabbed Josh by the arm because I didn’t know if
we were were going to make it or not. There was no
communication what so ever from the flight
attendants or from the cockpit as far whether we
were in mortal danger.”

The two wish there was better communication on
board, but said, luckily, it didn’t take long for
the pilot to get the plane safely on the ground.

A spokesperson for Southwest Airlines said there
were no major injuries, but paramedics did have to
treat some passengers for ear pain. In an email
response, the spokesperson called the landing
uneventful, but passengers on board said that’s not
the case.

“When you’re in the air 20,000 feet above the ground
and don’t know what’s going on it’s not uneventful,”
said Eichelberger.

Eichelberger and Trimberger said they recognize
accidents happen and will still be flying Southwest,
but hope passenger safety is being taken seriously.

“They do thousands of flights a day and it’s a rare
instance that this happened and I think it could
have happened to anybody,” said Trimberger.

Saturday’s emergency landing is just the latest
safety scare for Southwest Airlines. Last month, a
mother was killed after a jet engine exploded during
a flight. A few weeks later, a cracked window
prompted another emergency landing.

Passengers on board Flight 861 said they still don’t
know what caused this issue in the first place. CBS
11 asked Southwest Airlines, but have not heard
back.

Hi shatterbrain,

Southwest does 4,000 flights per day so I wouldn't worry about these incidents. Southwest has a sale now and my wife and I booked out beach vacation and a trip to see our youngest son.

For the truly risk averse staying home is really the only option. Flying is definitely safer than driving.

Cheers

Jim

More than 100 people have been killed in a fiery crash of a Boeing 737 passenger plane in Cuba.

Could this have been caused by another Boeing 737 engine failure?

See? Safest thing seems to be, stop flying if one can.

World's not going, but is gone nuts, even miniature horses used as psyche-treatment and allowed, two airlines now have had someone halfway sucked out with glass breakage, 911 did happen per planes, least we forget, the TSA has increased its groping, more nutty things happening on planes that thankfully, drudgereport catches...

Roadtripping sounds really, realllyyy good right now.

Coincidentally, Southwest has been in the news in Hawaii the past week or so because they're not only (and have been for years) going to fly from the mainland to out there, but they are about to start inner-island flights. They announced they'll be beating all of the current ones flying.

Was raised with SW being the company and family plane.

JetBlue air was founded by former SW peeps. I haven't flown that one and at this point in life I intend to never fly again till it's my spirit leaving my body.

Heck yeah! when an airline has bad things happen, they panic and go into super-careful mode, just as we do if in an accident or anything.

As ods go, when are the safest times to fly any airline? after an airline crashes, nevermind the brand.

Safest thing to do is not fly at all till we have our own wings, above.
