Subject: Yet another Southwest WINDOW FAILURE |
URL: Passengers heard window popping on Southwest plane |
|
"Passengers on a Southwest Airlines plane first heard a loud pop and then scurried away when they saw a jagged crack in a window that forced the jet to land in Cleveland on Wednesday.
Some on board immediately thought back to just two weeks ago when a jet engine blew apart and broke a window in a deadly accident aboard another Southwest flight.
"It made you nervous because something like this just happened," said passenger Paul Upshaw of Chicago, who was about two seats from the window. "We didn't know if it was going to crack open."

It is a lot harder to get sucked out of a broken airplane window if your seat belt is fastened and snugged up.

Unless these planes aren't outfitted with passenger 4 point seat belt shoulder harness....then BRING YOUR OWN PARACHUTE
"Spokesman James Garrow of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health said last night that Riordan's death was accidental.
National Transportation Safety Board chairman Robert Sumwalt said Ms Riordan, who was sitting next to a window, was wearing a seatbelt before she was partially sucked out of the plane."

Actually, SW should be the safest airline right now. Within a tragedy like this, they're likely and thankfully-so, 0bsessed with safety at this time.
Maybe, though, it's time for them to update and have a different engine made by a different company?
700 of the planes, huge bummer for them.
I have flown that airline more than any, and like JRTV? hope I got your nick right, I've found it to be fantastic for decades.
First class was best on Hawaiian, best food, service, comfy seats, etc.
SW seats were more comfy than American Air first class which I found pitiful and yet hilarious.

Hi JFF,
These type of things make us all safer. See link, FAA has already ordered these engines to be checked. It is one of the most common engines in the air and has been a reliable workhorse.
Cheers

Hi shatterbrain,
I fly nothing but Southwest. Safe with friendly flight crews not seen among other airlines these days. Today was their first fatality.
Cheers

Hi shatterbrain,
Yes, must have been a scary ordeal for those people. Still flying is safer than any other form of transportation and I don't worry about flying.
Cheers
Jim

I'll occasionally fly Southwest also. But for some reason, my flights get delayed because of hiccups like cabin pressurization etc. Anyway, NO MORE window seats for me.....EVER !

There's been much worse like in 2003 (see link) 129 were sucked out of a plane over the Congo.
One other I recall somewhat was the Honolulu flight over the Pacific in 1989 sucked about nine out of the plane.
