[Uh oh. This doesn't sound good at all.]

ANTIFA endorsed “pouring concrete on train tracks” and even made a “how-to video,” now a train has really derailed in the same city

Was Monday’s derailment of an Amtrak train an accident or was something more sinister afoot?

DUPONT, Wa. (INTELLIHUB) — Nearly six months after the Alt-Left group ANTIFA endorsed ‘pouring concrete on to train tracks to counter fracking in Olympia’ and even made a ‘how-to video’ an Amtrak train has derailed in a suburb of that exact city.

That’s right, on June 28 the ANTIFA tweeted from the “official” account the following statement proudly:

“Here we endorse crimes like pouring concrete on train tracks. We also include a how-to video at bottom of article: https://itsgoingdown.org/olympia-wa-train…“

A strike team was dispatched to the scene of the train derailment which may signify that authorities believe the crash could be terrorism-related despite the release of rather vague tight-lipped reports which offer little to no details about the crash.

The Amtrak “Cascades” train had 78 passengers aboard at the time of the derailment.

Six people are reportedly dead and over 70 others were injured after cabin cars flew off

Go to this site at the link I provided and scroll
down to Bettina Hansen twitter post..There are 3
pics..If you blow up the pic on the left and look
at the track ahead of the engine just entering
the turn you can see what appears to be something
on the track similar to the color of concrete..2
spots or blobs on the track..Could be dirt but
different in color than the gravel...

Thanks, David. I think I see what you are referring to: the spots are between the engine and the guy in bright orange. Might those be where the rails were spliced?

What seems strange to me is that it looks as if the tracks did not have what is called a 'super elevation' at that curve. Of course, it would be difficult to determine that from an aerial.

An SE is required at every curve. I've done enough design/drafting for highway work to be familiar with this. Depending on the sharpness of the curve, length of curve and expected speed of traffic, the plane of road surface would be pitched at varying degrees toward the inside of the curve. This keeps centrifugal force from throwing vehicles off to the outside of the curve. Though not being familiar with designing railroad tracks, I have observed that the same thing is done with railroads also.
I'm sure some folks might have noticed this while driving on curving roads/highways.
One thing about highway infrastructure is that by the time a stretch is built and traffic is allowed onto it, all the calculations on projected amount of traffic the roadbed is expected to carry(usually forward 20 years) are outdated. Increase is usually exponential, plus legal truck weight has increased way beyond anything that could have been expected. Those vehicles are what really give a highway a beating.
I expect the same situation in the case of railroads--they weren't designed originally for what they are expected to carry.

Unless and until further information is forthcoming, I'm of the opinion that the rate of speed was too great for that particular curve.

A terrible tragedy for all those aboard and their families.

Subject: you are right, NTSB says they went 80mph in 30mph zone

URL: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,4440786

I found an excellent forum with posts from train operators who know about these things. This morning they posted the NTSB statement which as time went on yesterday is no surprise and I've been on google maps trying to figure out what sort of pitch that turn had, can't tell but I think someone on that forum said it was a 10% pitch, will try to find that info.

NTSB Board member Bella Dinh-Zarr gave a late night news conference.
She gave a preliminary statement.

“So here’s the factual information that we have right now.
The investigator-in-charge has obtained a download of the event data recorder on the rear locomotive.
Preliminary indications are that the train was travelling at 80 MPH in a 30 MPH track.
The train was a 12 car train and it had a locomotive both in the front and the back.
Amtrak estimates that 80 passengers were on the train, with three crew, and two service personnel in the cafe car.
The crew went on duty at 05:00 and it departed at 06:00 this morning.
There were two stops. The last stop was 18 miles prior to the accident.”

At the link is the discussion which you will find interesting having dealt with highway design, speed, weight, etc. And even though this is a train, the same rules hold true. One thing is evident after looking at the google map of that turn, 80mph was way too fast!
